Box Score 2 Hannah Lyons,
Riley O'Dowd and
Kody Dillon led a balanced attack in Game 1 against Johns Hopkins while Lyons, O'Dowd and
Brooke Lacesa had 16, 14, and 10 kills respectively in Game 2 against Arcadia for the Susquehanna University Women's Volleyball team in two four-set matches Sunday afternoon in Glenside.
The River Hawks (16-7) defeated the Blue Jays (14-3) 22-25, 25-21, 25-15 and 25-22 in the afternoon matchup and rebounded from a slow start to defeat the Knights 19-25, 25-21, 25-17, 25-14 to take the sweep and head back to Selinsgrove with two important wins.
Against Johns Hopkins, the River Hawks took an early lead in the first set before the Blue Jays went on a 10-3 scoring run to pull ahead and win by three.
Susquehanna bounced back to win a tight second set as consecutive kills by Lacesa,
Sydney Portale and
Natalie Arm sparked a run to even the game at one set apiece.
After taking the third set with ease (25-15), the River Hawks were able to put away the match by taking four of the final five points after surrendering a lead they had for the entire set. Lyons and Portale each recorded key kills to cement the win.
The victory is the first win recorded against Johns Hopkins in the history of the program and a key win over a nationally ranked opponent.
Lyons and O'Dowd each had 13 kills in the match while
Lindsey Pugh had 40 assists.
In the second game against Arcadia (16-5) the team came out and played less than an hour after the previous match and dropped the first set 25-19 after the Knights went on a run midway through the set to extend the lead.
The River Hawks improved over the course of the match, narrowly defeating the Knights in the second set (25-21) and extending its margin of victory in its two wins over the final sets (25-17, 25-14).
Lyons had 16 kills and O'Dowd added 14.
Megan Nelson had three service aces.
The River Hawks come home after a successful 4-0 weekend and are set to face Landmark Conference foe Scranton Wednesday at OW Houts Gymnasium. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
