Kate Cantrell managed two shots on goal but it wasn't enough as the Susquehanna University Women's Soccer team was unable to rebound after surrendering two early goals to Misericordia in a 2-0 loss at Manglesdorf Field in Dallas.
Misericordia (2-0), ranked No. 17 in the national poll, threatened early, with two long distance shots. One of them flew just over the net and another was saved by Welliver. The Cougars were able to crack the scoresheet just over 13 minutes into the game on a right-footed volley from a cross.
They scored again less than four minutes later on a counter attack to make the score 2-0.
The River Hawks (1-1-1) defense settled down for the remainder of the game, but the offense could not put the ball in the back of the net despite four shots.
The River Hawks continue their non-conference slate at 3 p.m. Saturday when they take on Penn St. Harrisburg at Sassafras Field.
