Susquehanna Women's Swimming Dominant in Win over Goucher

Selinsgrove, Pa. – Sophomore Tori Weems (Cordova, Md./Easton) paced the Susquehanna University women's swim team Tuesday night with three wins in Landmark Conference action. Susquehanna (3-6, 3-0 LC) snapped a five-meet skid with an impressive 124-57 victory over the Goucher College Gophers (2-6, 0-2 LC).

How It Happened
  • The River Hawks posted a 1-2-3 sweep in five events.
  • Weems started the meet by anchoring the winning 200 medley relay, joining forces with junior Cate Welch (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West), sophomore Olivia Fravel (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area), and senior Maggie Palaski (Stroudsburg, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) to tally a 1:56.88.
  • Weems then picked up a first-place finish in the 50 freestyle in 26.34 followed by senior Devon Niness (Spring City, Pa./Roberts) in third in 26.68.
  • Weems finished the meet by leading a 1-2-3 sweep of the 100 backstroke with a winning time of 1:04.36 followed by freshman Sabrina Krotzer (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) in second (1:06.04) and Niness in third (1:06.14).
  • Junior Caitlin Kelly (West Chester, Pa./Henderson), the reigning Landmark Women's Swimmer of the Week, took first in the 200 freestyle in 2:03.77 followed by freshmen Victoria Morin (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) in second (2:07.17) and Larisa Calvo (Bath, Pa./Northampton Area) in third (2:08.01).
  • Kelly also captured the 100 freestyle, touching the wall first in 57.01, ahead of Fravel in second (57.29) and Palaski in third (59.67).
  • Fravel added a second win on the night by leading a 1-2-3 sweep of the 200 individual medley in 2:19.06. Junior Megan Shaffer (Berwick, Pa./Central Columbia) wasn't far behind in second in 2:19.26 followed by freshman Paige Swartz (Pottstown, Pa./Hill) in third (2:24.60).
  • Junior Colleen Walsh (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe Woodbury) claimed top honors in the 100 butterfly as Walsh clocked a 1:06.02 followed by senior Megan Duck (Madisonburg, Pa./Penns Valley) in second (1:06.76) and junior Erin Wetmore (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) in third (1:08.66).
  • Calvo earned a win in the 500 freestyle with a winning time of 5:35.77 followed by sophomore Brooke Boes (Westwood, N.J./Westwood Regional) in second in 5:37.64.
  • Freshman Shannon McGoey (New Windsor, Md./Linganore) notched the fastest time in the 100 breaststroke, touching the wall first in the exhibition event in 1:15.75.
