BALTIMORE, MD - Susquehanna swimming and diving made the most of day two Friday at the Landmark Championships as the competition shifted from Thursday's relays to the first full day of individual events, complete with the prelims in the morning and the evening's finals.
The first event of the day began with the women competing in the 500 yard freestyle. Susquehanna swimmer Matilda Klinetob took a respectable finish in the event finishing 13th out of the 16 athletes that competed. Klinetob posted a time of 5:23.19. The next Susquehanna athlete to compete in an event was Catherine Sirignano, as she completed the 200 yard IM, taking sixth place and placing a time of 2:15.83. Â
Dan Venuti was the first men's swimmer to compete on the day as he got 12th place in the 200 yard IM, posting a respectable time of 1:59.80. Three River Hawks competed in the 50 yard freestyle for the women. Ashley Derrick got her highest finish of the day as she snagged 7th place for Susquehanna, seeing a time of 25.13. Payton Kenney posted a time of 25.65, which improved her prelim time of 25.74, as she got 11th place in the event. The final River Hawk to compete in the event was Cameron Alvino, finishing just two spots behind fellow Susquehanna athlete, getting 13th place. Alvino saw a time of 25.83 in the event. Â
Eskander Bierman was the lone Susquehanna men's swimmer to advance to the finals for the 50 yard freestyle. He got 12th place, posting a time of 22.23. Valerie Stolz was the only River Hawk to dive in the competitions today as she competed in the one-meter. She improved her score of 216.55 in the prelims, as she scored a 240.35. Â Â
Susquehanna's best finish of the day came in the 400 yard medley relay as Ashley Derrick, Mackenzie Moran, Catherine Sirignano, and Payton Kenney got a fourth place finish for Susquehanna, seeing a very impressive time of 4:10.56. Â
The men's best finish of the day came on the counterpart of the women's previous event. Brandon Sutherland, Akira Black, Dan Venuti, and David Gentile claimed fifth place in the 400 yard medley relay, getting a time of 3:38.32. Â
Susquehanna had a successful day two of the Landmark Championships as they saw multiple athletes advance to the finals of their respective events. The River Hawks hope day three brings the same success that they witnessed on day two. Â
