BALTIMORE, MD - Day one of the Landmark Championship was underway as the men's and women's swimming teams both began vying for the championship banner in Baltimore, Maryland. The evening of relays saw the River Hawks place fourth in the women's 200 yard medley relay, the men's 200 yard medley relay, the women's 800 yard freestyle relay, and the men's 800 yard freestyle relay.
The first event for the River Hawks saw Ashley Derrick, Mackenzie Moran, Cameron Alvino, and Payton Kenney post a time of 1:52.26 in the 200 yard medley relay. The River Hawks earned fourth place by no more than a few seconds as the top three finishers were Catholic, Drew, and Scranton, respectively.
The men also took fourth place in the 200 yard medley relay, as they posted a time of 1:38.95, a mere two seconds behind the Blue Jays of Elizabethtown. Brandon Sutherland, Akira Black, Dan Venuti, and Eskander Bierman made a last-second push to try to overcome the Blue Jays, but still claimed an honorable spot in the competition.
Catherine Sirignano, Matilda Klinetob, Cameron Alvino, and Megan Iannacone kept the trend going for the River Hawks as they took to the 800 yard freestyle relay with an impressive time of 8:27.77. On the men's side the team of Joey Wayne, Keegan Pence, Tim Wetmore, and David Gentile posted a time of 7:22.92.
Day two of the Landmark Conference Championships will be held on Friday, February 14 beginning with 6 events, followed by diving events where Valerie Stoltz will take to the board for Susquehanna. The River Hawks hope to make strides towards podium finishes heading into day two, as they continue to keep their dreams alive of claiming the Landmark Swimming and Diving trophy with their women's team last winning in the 2018-19 season, and the men hoping to claim their first Landmark Conference swimming trophy.
