LANSING, MI (November 19, 2022) -- Susquehanna University senior cross country standout Kallan Carter finished her amazing career on Saturday at the 2022 NCAA Championships, hosted by Michigan State University on Forest Akers Golf Course in treacherous conditions.
The course was covered in slick conditions, as snow and cold weather made it difficult for all runners on the day but Carter still persevered through it all to finish 151st overall with a final time of 23:49.3. Carter posted an average mile time of 6:24, and the senior went out fast with an opening mile time of 6:00.7 as she was just 55th after the first marker.
Having to run as an individual is difficult, and Carter would start to lose some ground to teams that were packed up as she crossed the two-mile marker in 123rd place though still running a strong pace at 6:26.2 over the second mile. At the 3.8 mile marker, Carter maintained her pace and stayed right where she was as she had a 14:50.6 through the third checkmark. At the 5K marker, Carter dropped back to 144th place with a 19:31.4, but still was running well as she finished the final 1000 meters in 2:42.8 to finish the race at 23:49.3.
It was the second career NCAA Championships for Carter, who finished 125th in 2021 with a time of 23:14.9 in much better running conditions. Carter was the Landmark Conference's second-best finisher on the day, bested only by the University of Scranton's Jessica Hoffman, as the field consisted of 292 runners.
