SUSQUEHANNA GOES FOR 8-0 ON HOMECOMING AGAINST WILKES
Susquehanna University celebrates Homecoming Weekend as the River Hawks face Wilkes in a battle of the Landmark Conference's top choices for the Preseason Poll. Both teams come into today with 3-0 conference records as the two remaining unbeaten teams in Landmark play. While Susquehanna was fortunate to come out on top in its competitive non-conference slate to start the year, Wilkes was on the other end of that, enduring defeats to King's (Pa.), Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, SUNY Brockport, and St. John Fisher.Â
This also marks the first matchup between Susquehanna and Wilkes as conference foes since 2006 as members of the Middle Atlantic Conference. Both programs make the jump to the Landmark Conference this year, with charter member Susquehanna migrating football over with the conference's new sponsorship of the sport and Wilkes joining as a new full-time member. Saturday also marks the first matchup between both since 2019, when the River Hawks defeated the Colonels 88-24 in the Centennial-MAC Bowl Series.Â
RIVER HAWKS, GOAL POST TROPHY MAKE SUCCESSFUL ROUND TRIP FROM JUNIATA WITH 56-0 WIN...
For the eighth straight year, Susquehanna and Head Coach
Tom Perkovich retain possession of the Goal Post Trophy as Susquehanna delivered a 56-0 victory on Juniata's doorstep last Saturday. The River Hawks scored touchdowns on each of their first four possessions, with a pair of touchdown passes from the
Josh Ehrlich-
Kyle Howes passing combination and runs from Ehrlich and
Tommy Grabowski. This accounted for all the first half scoring, as Susquehanna matched its scoring total in the second half, bolstered with 14 quick points late in the third quarter. Grabowski scampered in again from 25 yards out, then just over a minute later
Keith Green III took an interception return back the same distance to close out the third quarter ahead 42-0. More running backs got in on the scoring, as DK Wyche and
Matt Surtz added the fourth and fifth rushing touchdowns on the day.Â
Susquehanna leads the Landmark Conference in rushing touchdowns with 22, while the "Wild Dogs" defensive unit hasn't allowed a single rushing touchdown all season, as well as  pitching its second consecutive shutout. The first-year Grabowski is the conference leader with eight rushing touchdowns, while Ehrlich is fifth with five rushing scores. Howes is second in the conference with six receiving touchdowns, with his one other rushing touchdown against Catholic putting him third in the league with seven total touchdowns.
The defense permitted only six first downs the whole afternoon on Juniata and holding them to 2-of-14 on third-down conversions, as well as stopping them on their lone fourth-down conversion of the day. The defense is eighth in NCAA Division III with a 24.1% third down efficiency and ninth with three defensive touchdowns.Â
