SUNBURY, PA (October 27, 2024) - Saturday wasn't the River Hawks' day as Susquehanna dropped a 9-3 decision to Bucknell at James R. Eister Community Center.
The Bison scored three goals in the first ten minutes of the game before adding one more in the first period to go into intermission with a commanding 4-0 lead.
Team captain
Andrew Pisano almost single-handedly willed the River Hawks back into the game, scoring two unassisted goals within seven minutes of each other early in the second period to cut the Bison's advantage in half. However, the momentum didn't last long. In the final 61 seconds of the second frame, the Bison scored two goals to get back to their four-goal lead. The latter goal was counted with just a single second on the clock.
Susquehanna (4-1) scored once more on a power-play goal by
Caleb Harrison in the third period after the Bison (2-0) were called for an interference penalty.
Bucknell scored thrice more in the third period, including twice in the final minute. The Bison outshot SU 39-14 and dominated faceoffs 40-7.
The River Hawks wore special pink-accented jerseys as part of the team's 8th-annual "Pink-Out" game, which raises money and awareness for the victims of breast cancer.
It was an uncharacteristically poor showing for Susquehanna, who was undefeated entering play Saturday. The team defeated NJIT, Elizabethtown, Shippensburg, and earned a forfeit win over Kutztown to start the 2024-25 season.
The River Hawks will be back in action Saturday, Nov. 2 in Lancaster against Franklin & Marshall. The following Saturday, the Diplomats will return the favor and come to Sunbury to play SU.
