MECHANICSBURG, PA - Following a Friday-night meet down at York, the Susquehanna women's swim team headed up to Messiah University on Saturday afternoon. The River Hawks fared well against a competitive Falcons squad, posting three victories.
Early in the day Susquehanna shined in the distance events as
Catherine Sirignano carried a second-place time of 11:44.59, with
Kate Wolford right behind her at 11:45.11.
Emma Church brought SU its first two victories as she won the 200 freestyle at 2:04.69, with
Megan Iannacone third at 2:11.27, then taking first in the 100 freestyle at 57.08 and Iannacone third again at 1:00.38.
Cameron Alvino came within half a second of the winning time of the 50 freestyle when she touched in at 26.48, with
Isabella Westerfield fourth at 27.15. Alvino then took third in the 100 butterfly at 1:07.33, just five seconds off the pace. Sirignano took on the 100 backstroke with a third-place time of 1:07.32, as
Hannah Nash clocked in at 1:10.09 for fourth. Distance swimmer
Matilda Klinetob continued her great start to the season as she won the 500 free with a time of 5:36.91 and nearly a full five-second margin of victory.
Mackenzie Moran fared very well against a good Messiah group in the 100 breaststroke, with her third-place time of 1:12.30 coming within just over one second of Lauren Cotton's winning time of 1:11.03. The day wrapped up in the 400 freestyle relay where the team of Alvino, Church,
Payton Kenney, and Moran earned second place at 3:58.63.
The River Hawks' next series of matches are all Landmark contests as they ship out to Juniata on Friday for a tri-match with the Eagles and Lycoming, then on Saturday a road dual match at Drew.
