Susquehanna went into the bye week this past week taking comfort in the fact that they've checked off a number of boxes. This includes clinching the Landmark, amassing new school records, and reaching the top ten nationally for multiple weeks. After starting the season 12th in D3football.com's Preseason Poll, the River Hawks slide up the rankings, never dropping despite a defeat to defending national champion SUNY Cortland by a 40-38 score in Week 3. The only items missing from them this season are the Stagg Hat Trophy, a win over Lycoming, and a chance to make a dent in the NCAA Division III national tournament. Those first two items will be answered by Saturday evening, while the latter will come into clearer view following Sunday's NCAA selection show, set for 5 p.m. Eastern Time. The twist in this year's national tournament is the expansion of the field from 32 teams to 40. This means a first-round by for 24 teams, while the remaining 16 will be split between eight games in the opening round Saturday, Nov. 23. The River Hawks maintained their number-six ranking from both D3football.com and the AFCA, and hold the number-16 spot in the latest NCAA Division III Power Index (NPI) rankings.
