SELINSGROVE, PA - Susquehanna University volleyball took its perfect 4-0 Landmark moniker into Saturday's matchup against three-time defending national champion and fifth-ranked Juniata at home Saturday afternoon. While the Eagles pulled out a three-set victory, the River Hawks made the most of their opportunities to keep the sets close.
HOW IT WENT DOWN
- Susquehanna led 3-1 in the first set and strung together some late runs in the frame that led to Juniata exhausting both its timeouts. Following a three-point Susquehanna run saw the Eagles led 23-21, the visitors claimed the final two points for the 25-21 win.
- Juniata looked to pull away early in set two by scoring the first four points, Susquehanna took three of the next four points to make it 5-3. The Eagles responded with another big run by scoring the next six and an 11-3 advantage. Both sides exchanged points and a few brief runs before Juniata moved into position to take the set 25-15.
- The Eagles again controlled the flow at the outset of set three up 5-0. The River Hawks got to within five points of the Eagles at 13-8, but Juniata remained in control to take a 25-19 game-clinching victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Susquehanna played well and remained in the plus column for attacking efficiency, finishing at .190 between 30 kills and just ten errors. Juniata finished at .330 between 48 kills and 12 errors.
- The River Hawks were hampered by nine service errors against their three service aces for the day. Juniata had nine service errors of its own, though had seven aces.
- Kyndall Mason again led the team in kills with 12, while registering two service aces and a team-high 14 digs.
- Elliott Schleicher posted 25 assists to lead the way for Susquehanna, along with three total blocks includinge one solo block. Sami Kline had two block assists and one of four River Hawks with four kills. Valerie Stoltz, Stella Robinson and Addison Dodge were the other three, with Dodge and Robinson also totaling one block assist.
UP NEXT FOR THE RIVER HAWKS
- The River Hawks have another big test next weekend with Landmark Conference foes Scranton and Drew. They head to the Electric City Friday to play the Royals at 5 p.m., as well as another match that night at 7:30 p.m. with non-conference Virginia Wesleyan. They head to play Drew next Saturday at 12 p.m., followed by Lancaster Bible at 2 p.m. in another non-confernce meetup.
