E-Town Breaks Tie to Defeat Women's Soccer

ELIZABETHTOWN, PA - Susquehanna women's soccer traveled to Elizabethtown on Saturday to take on the Blue Jays, and despite an advantage in shots, the River Hawks fell to a 2-1 defeat following a late Elizabethtown goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Elizabethtown took the first shot of the day, a hit from outside the penalty area that was gathered by Katie Henchy.
  • Susquehanna won the first corners of the day, with the first coming in the 7th minute when a deep cross from Caroline Slunt could only be turned behind. Slunt also helped Susquehanna win their second corner in as many minutes, as she had another cross deflected behind.
  • The River Hawks came close in the 28th minute through sophomore Ava Billmeyer, who took space afforded to her and crashed a right-footed attempt from the edge of the box against the crossbar. She was picked out minutes later by a dangerous cross from the left flank, but her header bounced into the hands of the Blue Jays' goalkeeper.
  • The opening goal came in the 34th minute, as an attempted pass took a deflection and found its way to Grace Tessier, who took advantage and poked a shot beyond a diving Henchy.
  • Morgan Stickley found the equalizer for the River Hawks at the start of the second half, as after encouraging chances for Billmeyer and Sydney Williams, Billmeyer found Stickley at the edge of the penalty area, and Stickley turned away from a defender and fired a left-footed shot into the top right corner.
  • As the game entered its final stages, Elizabethtown delivered a corner into the penalty area that was headed back across goal and turned in by Skylar Mumford.
  • Susquehanna attempted to answer back in the final eight minutes, but were unable to find an equalizer for a second time.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Susquehanna held a 16-8 edge in shots, with seven on target to the Blue Jays' six. Billmeyer's five total with two on target led the team, while Olivia St. Amand also managed three, finding the target with one. Susquehanna won three corners to Elizabethtown's two.
  • Stickley scored her third goal of the season, all coming in the last six games to go along with two assists. Billmeyer broke a three-way tie at the top of the assist leaders with her third of the year, matching her 2024 tally.
  • Henchy made four saves in between the sticks, while fouls were split 7-6 as Susquehanna committed one more than the Blue Jays.
UP NEXT FOR SU
  • The next game comes on home soil on Tuesday, October 7th, as Wilkes come to visit, but the following two games are away at Drew and Juniata. Susquehanna is 0-2 in Landmark play and 5-7 overall.
