ELIZABETHTOWN, PA – Junior guard
Mario Castro Sanchez scored a career-high 18 points on Saturday afternoon despite an 82-58 loss to host Elizabethtown College.
HOW IT WENT DOWN
- Castro Sanchez' career-high performance came on 60% shooting from the field and two made three pointers. It was his second-straight double-digit performance, following up a 13 point night on Wednesday.
- Despite a lopsided final score, the River Hawks were relatively even with the Blue Jays throughout the majority of the first half. A 15-1 run for Elizabethtown in the final four minutes of the first half was the deciding factor in the half and, ultimately, for the remainder of the game.
- Senior Brandon Lavitt, coming off a game-winning shot against Juniata on Wednesday, was also in the double digits scoring alongside Castro Sanchez. Lavitt finished the game with 10 points on an efficient 57.1% shooting, six rebounds, and two assists to add to his stat sheet.
- Seventeen of Susquehanna's players logged minutes on Saturday. Five of the 17 players were true freshman – Joey Moran, K.J. Carson, Jace Yedsena, Garett Hemingway, and Kevan Everts-Kamminga. Yedsena led the pack with four points in just ten minutes of play.
- Senior guard Allen Cieslak made his season debut today after dealing with a minor injury. Cieslak played ten minutes in his first action of the season.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Blue Jays' efficient shooting from the field and from beyond the arc was one of the largest deciders in the game. Elizabethtown shot 33-63 from the field and 11-25 from three versus Susquehanna's 21-53 from the field and 7-20 from three.
- The River Hawks turned the ball over 14 times against the Blue Jays' seven turnovers. Elizabethtown was able to capitalize off of those turnovers, scoring 17 points off turnovers.
- Senior big-man Billy Anderson led the team in assists (3) to go along with his eight points scored on perfect shooting from the field.
UP NEXT FOR THE RIVER HAWKS
- Next up for the River Hawks is a date with Penn State Harrisburg in Selinsgrove on Tuesday night. The two teams haven't matched up since 2016, when Susquehanna came home with an 82-56 win.
