SUFH Rallies to Defeat Elizabethtown, Advance to Third Straight Landmark Championship at Scranton

SELINSGROVE, PA - Susquehanna field hockey defeated Elizabethtown College in thrilling fashion in the Landmark Conference Semifinals, advancing to the team's third straight Conference Championship game. Susquehanna takes on The University of Scranton on Saturday, November 8.

How it Happened:
  • Susquehanna led a defensive battle in the first 15 minutes of play, shutting out the Blue Jays and any chance that they had at a shot. The River Hawks tallied two shots in the first quarter, unable to capitalize on any.
  • Heading into the second quarter of play, the River Hawks and Blue Jays stayed deadlocked in at zero all, with SUFH tallying the only shot throughout the quarter.
  • Elizabethtown came out of the break on an offensive tear, earning six shots to the Susquehanna zero through the period.
  • Late in the third period, the Blue Jays earned a penalty corner opportunity, where Drew Bridges tallied a shot towards Kylie Schmidt, just grazing past the goalkeepers pad, into the back of the net. Elizabethtown held on for the remaining two minutes of play, taking a 1-nil lead into the final quarter of play.
  • The Blue Jays continued to keep the offensive powerhouse in Susquehanna at bay, allowing only one shot in the first nine minutes of the quarter.
  • Emma Campitelli aimed a pass at the streaking Haley Dreisbach with less than six minutes to play, where Dreisbach served a shot into the back of the cage, tying the game back up at one a piece.
  • Elizabethtown was stunned at the development, as they gave the River Hawks yet another chance to take the lead.
  • Campitelli continued her dominant season, sending a pass into the middle right to Jada Thompson, who scored the eventual game winning goal.
  • The River Hawks held on for the remaining six minutes of play, earning their third straight trip to the Landmark Conference Championship game, where the team will head to Scranton to take on the Royals, of whom they have defeated the previous two seasons.
