DOYLESTOWN, PA - Senior guard
Jackson Van Wagener scored 20 points on Saturday against Delaware Valley, leading Susquehanna Men's Basketball to a 67-59 victory in its first regular season game.
HOW IT WENT DOWN
- Van Wagener's 20 points came on an efficient 63.6% from the field, while grabbing eight rebounds and dishing out three assists to fill out his stat sheet. Rebounding was a key difference maker for Susquehanna, helping the River Hawks get in the win column—as they controlled the glass 40-24.
- Momentum was on the side of the River Hawks to start the first half thanks to an early 8-0 run, but the Rams responded with a 10-0 run of their own.
- Van Wagener led the charge in the first half for Susquehanna, scoring 11 points, with six coming in the final four minutes of the half. They ultimately trailed by three at halftime, 34-31. Susquehanna made 12-26 shots in the half against Delaware Valley's 12-29 shooting.
- Both teams went back and forth coming out of the second half until the Rams managed to put together an 11-1 run. J.T. Wright scored seven of the 11 points in the run that lasted until the midway point of the second half.
- Audric Washington helped the River Hawks respond with a 10-2 run, one that gave them the lead with 8:26 remaining. Washington scored six of the team's ten points, finishing the game with 11 points to go along with 5 rebounds.
- Van Wagener then converted on an and-one with 6:41 remaining, giving the River Hawks a lead that they would possess for the remainder of the game. A 5-0 run ensued to give Susquehanna a cushion for the final five minutes.
- Mario Castro Sanchez was in the double-digit scoring, scoring 14 points on 60% shooting in 22 minutes. Alex Katusha and Emezie Egeonu also helped fill out the box score with six points each alongside Brandon Lavitt, who scored five points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

- Susquehanna now looks ahead to next Friday and Saturday, where they'll host the Mike Schieb '78 Memorial Tournament. They are set to take on King's College at 8 p.m. on Friday.
