BALTIMORE, MD – Another successful Susquehanna University football season came to an end in the NCAA Division III Quarterfinals on Saturday, with the River Hawks falling 40-10 on the road at Johns Hopkins. In a rematch of their Week 3 matchup, as well as a showdown between two of last year's NCAA Semifinalists,
Dominic Bourgeois and
Rahshan La Mons accounted for the team's scoring, with Bourgeois nailing an unprecedented 20th field goal for a SU kicker to lead the nation, while La Mons tallied his team-best 12th rushing touchdown and 14th total TD.
HOW IT WENT DOWN
- Johns Hopkins 7, Susquehanna 0: The River Hawks won the toss and elected to defer, giving Johns Hopkins the ball to start the game. The Blue Jays started strong with a 12-play, 91-yard drive that consumed the game's first 6:09. They scored the game's first points on a trick play, handing the ball to wide receiver Cole Crotty, who threw it to a wide-open Robby Enright in the end zone.
- Johns Hopkins 7, Susquehanna 3: The River Hawks responded with a drive of its own that ate up over six minutes. Josh Ehrlich completed all four of his pass attempts, leading the River Hawks down into Blue Jays territory. Junior kicker Dominic Bourgeois capped the drive off with a 35-yard field goal to put Susquehanna on the board.
- Johns Hopkins 14, Susquehanna 3: The Blue Jays capitalized on a fumble recovery at the River Hawks' 11-yard line, punching in their second touchdown of the game. A quarterback sneak by Bay Harvey pushed the lead to double digits.
- Johns Hopkins 20, Susquehanna 3: Geoff Schroeder extended the Blue Jays' lead less than three minutes later with a 39-yard touchdown run. The River Hawks forced a missed extra point.
- Johns Hopkins 27, Susquehanna 3: Harvey connected with Enright at the 8:21 mark in the third quarter for the receiver's second touchdown reception of the game. The 43-yard pass put an exclamation point on an explosive, four-play Johns Hopkins drive.
- Johns Hopkins 27, Susquehanna 10: The River Hawks responded with a touchdown drive of their own just five minutes later. An 18-yard rush by Ehrlich brought the Susquehanna offense down to the 34-yard line before Rahshan La Mons found paydirt on a 23-yard rush.
- Johns Hopkins 33, Susquehanna 10: Harvey connected with Crotty on a 50-yard pass to move the chains deep into River Hawks territory. With 9:13 left in the fourth quarter, Harvey punched it in himself on a seven-yard touchdown run.
- Johns Hopkins 40, Susquehanna 10: Harvey's fourth total touchdown came on a 24-yard strike to Chad Martini to increase the lead to 30.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- La Mons led Susquehanna in both rushing and receiving. The sophomore finished the game with109 total yards between 51 on the ground and 58 receiving to go with his 23-yard run.
- The matchup proved to be a high-powered offensive showdown with the Blue Jays just outgaining the River Hawks 453-442. Susquehanna held the upper hand in the rushing game with 154 rushing yards to Johns Hopkins' 35.
- Layton, Steven Seibert, and Ben Fleming led the Susquehanna defense with seven total tackles each. Layton produced the River Hawks' lone sack, also adding two TFLs to the stat sheet. Jesse Ruisch led the defense in solo tackles with five.
- Six River Hawks caught passes outside of La Mons on Saturday. Hunter Morgenroth, Daniel Growney, and Robert Stolfa each amassed 20 receiving yards on the game.
- Newly-crowned AFCA All-American kicker Dominic Bourgeois made his 20th straight field goal, finishing his season off with a clean field goal sheet to lead NCAA Division III. He is 25-for-25 for his career.
- Aaron Angelo gave the River Hawks a boost of momentum with a few successful kick returns. The first-year wide receiver racked up 136 kick return yards with his long, a 40-yard return coming right before the first half.
A SEASON IN REVIEW
- 2025 marks the second straight season that Susquehanna made it to the NCAA DIII Quarterfinals, coming one game short of their end point from 2024 that saw them reach the national semifinals.
- Johns Hopkins advances to the NCAA Semifinals for the second straight year where they'll play the winner of the Wisconsin-River Falls and Wheaton (Ill.) game.
