CHESTERTOWN, MD - Susquehanna University women's swim team hopes the success of Saturday's meet at Washington College gains traction heading into mid-February's Landmark Conference Championships. For the women it was a tri-match between the River Hawks, the host Shorewomen, and Bryn Mawr, carrying several top finishes and one victory.
The first event of the day saw the River Hawks claim third place in the 400 yard medley relay. Ashley Derrick, Mackenzie Moran, Cameron Alvino, Isabella Westerfield posted a time of 4:18.35 to take the spot. The 1000 yard free fared even better for the River Hawks as they claimed second and third place in the event. Kate Wolford posted a time of 11:38.54, followed by Catherine Sirignano's time of 11:47.59. Ashley Derrick continued her dominant season as she took yet another second-place finish away from her competitors. Derrick tallied a time of 25.85 in the 50-yard free. Ashley Derrick's next event fared even better for the Susquehanna athlete as she won the 100 yard back, posting an impressive time of 1:02.57. Hannah Nash took third place in the event tallying a time 1:09.68 for the River Hawks. The 100 yard back fared well for Mackenzie Moran as she got the bronze in the event showcasing a time of 1:12.21. Wrapping up the afternoon for the River Hawks was Megan Iannacone, Payton Kenney, Isabella Westerfield, and Cameron Alvino showcasing their skills as they stole the silver medal in the 400-yard free relay showcasing their time of 3:59.58.
Susquehanna has nearly a two-week break as they prepare for the Landmark Conference Championships, set for February 13-16 in Baltimore, Md. at Loyola Maryland's Mangione Aquatics Center. The River Hawks placed fourth at last year's championships as the team looks to move into the top three.
