Softball Blanked by MIT, Defeat Muhlenberg to Split Stay at Salisbury Tournament

SALISBURY, MD - Susquehanna softball finished the Salisbury Margie Knight Tournament on Sunday, overcoming an early-morning 4-0 defeat to MIT with a 3-1 victory over Muhlenberg. The River Hawks went 2-2 in their two-day stay in Salisbury, with a 1-0 nine-inning win over TCNJ Saturday representing their other victory. Junior pitcher Brianna Jones picked up both wins after throwing complete games in SU's two victories, fanning five Mules. 

MIT 4, Susquehanna 0 

The balls were flying for the Engineers as they defeat the River Hawks 4-0 in the early showcase of matches slated for Sunday. The River Hawks tallied four hits in the match, alongside seven earned walks. The engineers pitching efforts were to much for SU as they left the bases full in the fourth and fifth innings. Four River Hawks stole a base in the match up, matching their season high for stolen bases in one game. Hailey Kaba, Hannah Roland, Olivia Murray, and Julia LaRose were the Hawks to steal the bags. LaRose earned her first career stolen base in the loss to MIT. 

Hannah Foust earned the start for Susquehanna, pitching all six innings. The SU athlete faced 28 batters, only allowing eight hits and two walks.  

Susquehanna 3, Muhlenberg 1 

Brianna Jones threw yet another spectacle against Muhlenberg College in the 3-1 win. The junior pitcher three a complete game, striking out five batters. The River Hawks started the game falling behind early 1-0. The team rallied and overcame the deficit, ripping off three straight runs in the third frame. Jones held Muhlenberg to a total of three hits following the opening inning. Palumbo continued her fantastic season knocking in two of the three runs, as Alyssa Mayorca roped in the final run for the River Hawks.  

Up Next For SU: 

Susquehanna wrapped up the Salisbury Margie Knight Tournament going 2-2. The team defeated Muhlenberg and TCNJ. Looking ahead at SU's schedule, the River Hawks will be heading to Altoona, Pa to take on Penn State Altoona in a double header on March 20. The River Hawks first pitch is slated for 3:00 pm, with the second match up following at 5:00 pm. Following the trip to Altoona, SU will begin their conference schedule, beginning with a double-header against Lycoming College.
