Softball Finishes West Coast Trip at Redlands

REDLANDS, CA- Susquehanna University Softball wrapped up their trip out west in California dropping a doubleheader to the University of Redlands. The River Hawks head back east following four doubleheaders in a span of six days, taking a lot of experience back with them as they prepare for their next test next weekend at Salisbury's Margie Knight Tournament, where they'll play The College of New Jersey, King's College of Pa., Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Muhlenberg.

Game 1: Redlands 8, Susquehanna 0 (5 Innings)

While the Bulldogs' bats were firing on all cylinders, home team pitcher Katlyn Gandara threw a gem with a perfect game against the River Hawks' offense. She also helped her own cause, batting 2-for-3 with one RBI and one double. Kassidy Long provided a two-RBI single in the fourth inning towards a 7-0 lead before Natalie Lowthers's RBI single in the fifth inning provided an early exit with the eight-inning rule. Brianna Jones earned the start for Susquehanna, pitching 4.1 innings and allowing seven earned runs on ten hits.

Game 2: Redlands 9, Susquehanna 1

The Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead entering the first inning of play at 2-0, then tacked on four more in the bottom of the second thanks to hits to the outfield that included an RBI double, RBI triple, and a sacrifice fly before an RBI single. Behind 7-0, Susquehanna got a run back in the top of the fourth when Mary Wilkinson reached first on an error, bringing home Myalynn Morales. The home team manufactured one run in both the bottom of the fourth and fifth to once again offer a five-inning exit.

Hannah Foust got the start, going 1.1 innings and allowing four earned runs on three hits. Ashley Carlson pitched the remainder of the game, offering up one strikeout and allowing just five hits with three earned runs.

Up Next For SU: Susquehanna sits at 1-7 following their trip to California. The team heads to Salisbury, Md. to take part in the Salisbury University Margie Knight Tournament. The College of New Jersey will be Susquehanna's next opponent, with the first pitch slated for Saturday, Mar. 15, at 1 p.m.
