Women's Volleyball Prepares for 2025 Season

SELINSGROVE, PA - The 2025 Susquehanna University women's volleyball season is less than two months away, which also marks the debut of new head coach Johnny Powell, who joined the River Hawks this spring. He looks to guide a talented Susquehanna team that has continually qualified for the Landmark Conference Tournament through much of the league's existence, including hosting a tournament game last season and chalking up 19 wins.

The River Hawks jump with both feet in to start the year down in Lancaster at the Franklin & Marshall Tournament Aug. 29-30. In addition to the host Diplomats, Susquehanna will also take on Randolph-Macon and Lancaster Bible. It's then off to perennial power New York University and their home tournament Sept. 5-6, where SU will also take on Gallaudet and Stevens Institute. This then will be followed by Swarthmore's tournament Sept. 12-13 as the River Hawks will take on SWAT, Wesleyan and Misericordia. The River Hawks, and Coach Powell, make their home debut on Sept. 17 welcoming Dickinson. This will serve as the team's lead-in for their annual River Hawk Classic on Saturday, Sept. 20. The day consists of York College of Pa. and Penn State Altoona. The following weekend SU heads down to Eastern University on Sept. 27, playing the Eagles and Immaculata.

Susquehanna turns the calender into October with a home match against Gettysburg on Oct. 1, followed by a stretch of matches on the road. It all begins Saturday, Oct. 4 visiting King's College of Pa. and their home tournament, playing the Monarchs as well as Widener. The Landmark Conference season opens up the following weekend of Oct. 10-11 as Susquehanna visits Wilkes that Friday night, followed by Moravian Saturday afternoon. The orange and maroon takes their home conference season into full flight the following week as on Oct. 14 they welcome Elizabethtown for a midweek matchup, followed by a Friday night matchup Oct. 17 against Lycoming, then defending national champion Juniata on Saturday, Oct. 18. Coach Powell's team moves on up to Scranton on Friday, Oct. 24 for a Landmark meetup with the Royals, as well as a non-conference matchup against Virginia Wesleyan. The next day they head to New Jersey to face league-foe Drew, as well as another chance meeting with Lancaster Bible. They then head over to Messiah for a non-conference match on Thursday, Oct. 30, then round out their conference regular season hosting Goucher on Friday, Oct. 31 and Catholic Saturday, Nov. 1. The regular season for the River Hawks wrap up at Rowan Saturday, Nov. 8, playing the host Profs and another matchup with Widener.

The opening round of the Landmark Conference Volleyball Tournament will take place Tuesday, Nov. 11 between seeds three through six. The winners of those matchups will advance to the semifinals on Thursday, Nov. 13 against the top two seeds, with the champion being settled on Saturday, Nov. 15, hosted by the higher seed. Juniata is not only in pursuit of its Landmark title defense this fall, but another crack at the NCAA Division III national championship, which they've won the last three years. The River Hawks have also been a mainstay of the Landmark Tournament since the conference began in 2007, including a stretch of 20 and 30-win seasons between 2013 and 2021 (save 2020 due to the pandemic) and national tournament appearances in 2016, 2019, and 2021.
