NEWPORT NEWS, VA - Susquehanna University football takes their show on the road for the first time this season Saturday as they travel to Christopher Newport University for their first-ever meeting with the Captains Saturday at 12 noon. The game was originally scheduled for 1 p.m., but moved up one hour due to potential thunderstorms later Saturday afternoon.
The River Hawks look to put their 40-22 defeat last week to third-ranked Johns Hopkins behind them against a CNU squad that has received votes in the last few AFCA and D3football.com national rankings. Last week's defeat put Susquehanna at 13th in the D3football.com national poll and 14th by the AFCA coaches after being ranked fourth and fifth, respectively. Saturday's game in Virginia marks SU's last non-conference matchup of the year before turning over to its Landmark Conference slate in pursuit of the team's third straight Landmark title. The River Hawks are on a bye week next week before welcoming Lycoming in their conference opener on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 12 p.m. from Doug Arthur Stadium.Â
Last Saturday's matchup with JHU did produce some positives as it marked the season debut of All-American running back
Rahshan La Mons. After sitting out the first two games against Union and Bridgewater due to injury, La Mons took the Blue Jays' defense for 110 yards on 13 carries and two fourth-quarter touchdowns, including a 37-yard TD run. He also carved his name into the career record books, where he now sits 11th all-time at Susquehanna with 1,723 rushing cards. He is on pace to become just the eighth Susquehanna back ever to reach 2,000 career rushing yards. Dave Paveletz holds the record of 4,731 yards from 2006-09. Ehrlich is also in the career records chase, with his 5,267 passing yards ranking fifth all-time and his 51 passing touchdowns fourth. Ehrlich had one touchdown pass against Johns Hopkins when he found senior receiver
Hunter Morgenroth down the right sideline for a diving catch in the endzone. He threw for 199 yards and ran for 65 yards, giving him 6,971 career total yards between the pass and the run, good for fourth all-time.
