SELINSGROVE, PA - Susquehanna men's soccer took on #20 Scranton in their first Landmark Conference matchup of the season, falling 2-0 on Saturday as the Royals scored two in the early minutes of the second half.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Susquehanna defended three early corners without allowing a shot, with the first chance coming from a free-kick swung in and headed goalwards, but saved by Finn Kramer in the Susquehanna goal.
- A few more Scranton shots came in early on, but Kramer managed to keep the Royals out while several other shots were blocked.
- Good work down the right flank by Javier Diaz and Hayden Swinehart saw Swinehart pull the ball back towards Henry McElroy, who missed narrowly wide to the right.
- Angelo Zografos had the first chance of the second half after an attempted long ball only found Liam Raney charging to block it, and it came to Zografos whose shot was blocked. The chance wasn't done yet, as it came to Swinehart, who was fouled, and the resulting free-kick was fired over the top by Swinehart.
- The second phase of a Scranton long throw bounced away from goal, but it was volleyed back in through the crowd, off the right post and into the net.
- It was just two minutes later that the Royals scored again, as Matt Capretto was played in behind the River Hawks' defense before rounding Kramer and scoring.
- Capretto had another chance in the 58th minute, but Kramer was equal to the task, clawing the effort out at full stretch.
- Scranton attacked again in the 66th minute, and after the first effort hit the crossbar, it came back for a second chance that Kramer recovered.
- As the River Hawks chased a way back into the game, their only further shot was a free-kick by Zografos that was off target.
