Volleyball Beats Immaculata at Eastern Tournament

ST. DAVIDS, PA - Susquehanna women's volleyball split their matches on Saturday at Eastern University's tri-match, overcoming an early three-set defeat to the host Eagles with a four-set victory against Immaculata. 

Susquehanna 0, Eastern 3
  • In set 1, two kills from Stella Robinson and Valerie Stoltz helped Susquehanna reach a 8-5 lead early on.
  • The Eagles would come back to tie the score at 13-13. The two teams would go back and forth until a three-point run by Eastern gave them a 23-20 lead.
  • Down 24-22, Susquehanna would come back to tie the score at 24. However, a service ace from Kallie Rogers would seal the deal for the Eagles in set 1 27-25.
  • Set 2 saw Eastern start to take control of the match as they took an early 7-1 lead over Susquehanna.
  • Susquehanna would go on a seven-to-two run themselves to shorten the deficit 10-8
  • The Eagles would only allow Susquehanna to score eight more points in the set, going on a seven-point run to take set 2 25-16.
  • In set 3, was more of the same as set one, with both teams going back and forth. The River Hawks held an early 10-5 lead with three kills from Addison Dodge.
  • More back and forth action ensued, but Eastern's five point run would tie the game at 12.
  • With the game tied 19-19, the Eagles would go on a six-point run to take set 3 25-19 and  sweep Susquehanna.
  • Addison Dodge recorded 9 kills for Susquehanna, with Valerie Stoltz contributing with seven kills of her own. Jessica Sack also recorded 15 digs in the match.
  • Hannah Pringle and Alexis Stanford combined for 29 kills for Eastern.

Susquehanna 3, Immaculata 1
  • The first set saw the two teams going back and forth, with neither team going up by more than two points in the early going.
  • With the score tied at 13, Immaculata scored back-to-back points, but the River Hawks immediately responded with a five-point run to make the score 18-15.
  • Immaculata slowly but surely came back in the game, tying the score at 19 apiece.
  • Mia Esposito would lead the effort to comeback down 24-23, getting the next three kills for Immaculate to take set 1 26-24.
  • In set 2, Immaculata started hot with a 8-3 lead. Susquehanna would come roaring back with two separate three-point runs to tie the score at 12.
  • The River hawks would then jump out to a 19-13 lead after a six-point run with the help of multiple attack errors and service aces.
  • Susquehanna would hold off Immaculata's attempted comeback after a kill from Mason Kyndall gave the River Hawks a set 2 win 25-19.
  • The third set started the same as the first with back and forth action, until Immaculata scored four points in a row to take a 12-9 lead.
  • Susquehanna would tie the score up, and this action followed multiple times until the River Hawks went on two separate three-point runs to clinch the third set 25-20
  • Susquehanna couldn't stop going on runs in the fourth set, having four separate runs of four points or more and leading by as much as 22-12. A kill from Valerie Soltz sealed the deal for the River Hawks as they took the final set 25-17.
  • Samantha Kline, Valerie Soltz, and Stella Robinson combined for 38 kills in this match, while Jessica Sack recorded a season-high 34 digs

  • Susquehanna will host Gettysburg College next in a non-league match on Wednesday, October 1st at 7 p.m. at O.W. Houts Gymnasium
