HUNTINGDON, PA - Susquehanna women's basketball continued to dominate on Wednesday with an 80-49 win at Juniata, posting a season sweep of the Eagles. The evening was highlighted by
Julia Roth's team-leading 20 points with 11 rebounds towards her 11th double-double of the campaign.
Carly George also contributed heavily with 12 rebounds to go with nine points, as
Sydney Weyant posted up three 3-pointers.
How it Happened:
- Sydney Weyant netted the first basket for the River Hawks, nailing a three pointer following the early Juniata basket.
- A back and forth battle ensued for the next six minutes of the first quarter, with neither team finding any footing with a lead larger than five.
- Julia Pinckert and Sydney Weyant netted the final two baskets of the first quarter for the River Hawks, both nailing a three pointer to push the SU lead to six. Susquehanna held the lead 23-17 after the first frame.
- The Eagles continued to stick around opening the second quarter of play, with Susquehanna unable to enter a double digit lead.
- With four minutes to go in the first half of play, SU pulled away from the Eagles, resulting in a Julia Roth lay up to push the lead to double digits for the first time in the match.
- The River Hawks continued to pull away from the Eagles for the remainder of the second quarter, with Greta Servitto adding her name to the box score for the final bucket of the first half. SU held an 18 point lead over the Eagles at the break, 41-23.
- Coming out of the first half break was more of the same for the visiting team. The River Hawks continued to push their lead early in the quarter, starting with two made free throws by Annie Greek to open quarter number three.
- Susquehanna did not relinquish the lead throughout the entirety of the quarter, holding a 57-41 advantage heading into the fourth.
- The River Hawk offense exploded in the fourth quarter of play, out scoring the Eagles 23-8 throughout the frame.
- Kate Henn nailed a three point shot with less than a minute to play to push the SU lead all the way to 29.
- Cassie Doemling pushed in a last second lay up to end the game for SU, with the River Hawks defeating the Eagles, 80-49.
Inside the Box Score:
- Julia Roth led all River Hawks scorers in the contest, scoring 20 points to go along with 11 rebounds for her 11th double-double of the season. Roth shot a staggering 50% from the field, netting 9-of-18 shots. Roth throttled her career numbers to 847 points and 570 rebounds.
- Sydney Weyant netted 11 points for SU, including shooting 3-of-6 from beyond the arc.
- Carly George finished the contest with 12 rebounds to go along with nine points. She now was 574 career rebounds for her career.
- Despite the 80-point game, Roth and Weyant were the only River Hawks in double digits in scoring Wednesday night thanks to all 11 Susquehanna players that took the court tallying points. This led to 25 bench points for the River Hawks, while the Eagles' bench produced just two.
- The River Hawks shot 43.7% from the field (31-of-71), in comparison to the Eagles 30.2% (19-of-63). Susquehanna made 8-of-24 threes, compared to Juniata's 3-of-22, while both teams fared well at the free throw line, the River Hawks 10-of-11 and the Eagles 8-of-8.
