SCRANTON, PA - Susquehanna women's basketball took their eight-game win streak to number-two ranked Scranton on Saturday in a heavyweight battle for Landmark supremacy. The undefeated Royals lived up to their billing to take a 94-53 over the River Hawks to remain perfect at 23-0 (16-0 Landmark) on the season. Despite the defeat, Susquehanna (19-4, 12-4 Landmark) remains in prime position for as high as the second seed in the Landmark standings with two regular-season games to go against Goucher and Drew, both at home.
How it Happened:
- Scranton came out hot, scoring the opening seven points of the contest before Sydney Weyant netted the first points for the River Hawks.
- The River Hawks continued to battle, keeping teh score in striking distance, cutting the lead all the way down to three.
- The Royals led the River Hawks 16-12 following the first quarter of play.
- The opening minutes of the second quarter were much of the same, with the River Hawks keeping the score close, before the Royals erupted on the offensive side of the ball.
- Throughout the remainder of the quarter, Scranton pushed their lead all the way to 19, leading SU 44-25 at the break.
- Scranton continued to push the lead in the third quarter, with the River Hawks trying to stick around.
- The Royals pushed the score out of striking distance of the River Hawks in the fourth quarter, sealing the win at 94-53.
Inside the Box Score:
- Annie Greek and Zoie Maffei both netted double digit points for the River Hawks. Maffei delivered a team-best 15 points off the bench, making 7-of-8 from the floor with one 3-pointer, along with three assists. Greek shot 5-of-10 from the field and added a pair of free throws for 12 points.
- Susquehanna shot 40.7% from the field (22-54) compared to the Royals 56.3% (36-64). The River Hawks made just 3-of-14 from long range, compared to 9-of-23 for the Royals, while scoring 6-of-7 from the charity stripe to Scranton's 13-of-14.
- Scranton's big day shooting the ball came from impressive performances by the tandem of Kaci Kranson and Elizabethtown Bennett, who totaled 66 of the team's 94 points. Kranson had 39 points, making 15-of-22 from the field, including 5-of-11 from 3-point land. Bennett landed 27 points after making 10-of-16 from the floor and 3-of-6 on threes. Kaeli Romanowski finished the day with 11 assists, while totaling eight rebounds and five points.
- The Royals led 40-21 in rebounds, including 15 offensive rebounds that led to 22 second chance points. The River Hawks managed two second chance points off seven offensive boards.
- Senior Julia Pinckert picked up three assists with six points, putting her closer to the 400 career assists mark with 395 lifetime.
- Sydney Weyant made two of the team's three 3-pointers on the day as she finished with eight points.
