SELINSGROVE, PA - The Landmark Indoor Track & Field Championships return to Susquehanna University this Saturday, Feb. 28 as the River Hawks are prepared to do battle in their Robert I. Estill Field House to capture another conference title. The men enter the championships voted tied for first in the Landmark Pre-Championship Poll as they seek their fifth straight title, while the women were picked to finish fifth as they look for their fourth title in five years.
Led by head coach
Ethan Senecal, Susquehanna has enjoyed another statement season. While many familiar names are back to build upon their already-impressive careers, including a chance to repeat as conference individual champions, many new names have entered the fray to help the River Hawks gain an edge, not to mention critical points in key areas. A few new names that come to mind are women's pole vaulter
Kendall Simms, who made it her M.O. this winter to rewrite the school pole vault record. She did so four times over, with the bar currently raised to 3.55m. Another one is women's first-year hurdler and sprinter
Alyssa Varias, who has turned on the jets in the 60-meter hurdles, with her season best at 9.76. For the men, distance runner
Derick Blair has had a plentiful winter to follow up his cross country campaign this fall that saw him capture the Landmark Conference individual title, the first Susquehanna runner to do so since 2011. He has covered a lot of ground between the mile, 3K, and 5K and is currently entered in the 3K and 5K for Saturday.
Some of the defending Landmark indoor championships include runners
Mason Winslow and
Aidan Diglio, who were half of the conference-winning 4x400 team that set a championship meet record of 3:22.48. The two also made a splash in the regular season finale last week at Bucknell's tuneup meet, where Winslow set a new 500 meter record at 1:06.24, while Diglio set the third-fastest in the same event at 1:08.06. Between them was
Aaron Kolosowsky, who now holds the second-fastest 500 time at 1:07.99. Thrower
Cole Goodwin has racked up a great career in the shot put and the weight throw, as the senior won the Landmark shot put title back in 2024 at 14.42 meters. Since then he's established a new standard for himself, throwing for over 15 meters in both events, including a 15.42m shot put mark and 15.43 weight throw margin back in January. For the women senior runner
Ashley Newman looks to make the most of her final indoor Landmark championship as she has established herself as a solid distance runner, mainly in the 200, while coming back to serve on the 4x200, where she was part of the unit that took third in last year's title chase with a time of 1:49.07. This season her group ran a season-best 1:51.32.
