Men Make it Two Straight with Decisive Win over Lycoming

SELINSGROVE, PA – Mario Castro Sanchez, Brandon Lavitt, and Billy Anderson combined for 45 total points on Saturday afternoon, leading Susquehanna to a 78-59 win over visiting Lycoming for a season sweep of the Warriors in a critical final stretch to their Landmark season. 
 
HOW IT WENT DOWN 
  • The River Hawks jumped out to an early 9-2 lead on the backs of an early three pointer from Castro Sanchez. The junior guard finished the game with a game-high 17 points on 50% shooting and four made three-pointers.
  • Lycoming responded with a 7-1 run over the game's next five minutes, spanning until the 11:04 mark in the half.
  • Anderson, the senior big-man, scored five points towards the middle of the first-half as the two sides traded points. The score was knotted at 22 with 4:32 remaining in the half.
  • The River Hawks finished the half with a 12-5 run that gave them a 34-27 lead heading into the break. Castro Sanchez scored seven of Susquehanna's 12 points during that stretch.
  • Consistent scoring continued as the River Hawks opened the second half; the Men went on a 10-2 run at the hands of five points from Jackson Van Wagener through the half's first three minutes. The Senior guard scored nine total points in the game, grabbing three rebounds and dishing out two assists to add to his stellar game.
  • Junior guard Seamus Rogers scored six straight points for Susquehanna towards the midway point of the first half, extending the River Hawks lead to 55-37 with 11:36 remaining in the game.
  • Senior Brandon Lavitt scored seven points and dished out an assist on a three-pointer to KJ Carson as Susquehanna's lead held much of the same for the rest of regulation.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE   
  • 13 River Hawks logged minutes on Saturday with nine getting at least double-digit minutes. 
  • Seven players scored at least five points for Susquehanna.
  • The River Hawks outshot Lycoming in all three major shooting statistics: Field Goals - 44.6 percent (29-of-65) to 36.7 percent (22-of-60), Three-Pointers (11-of-31 to 5-of-23), and Free Throws (11-of-17 to 10-of-18). 
  • Lavitt grabbed a team-high nine rebounds to go along with his 14 points scored on 6-of-10 shooting. 
  • First-Year guard Alex Katusha stood out for the River Hawks, dishing out five assists in just 12 minutes of play.
  • Anderson's 14 points scored now brings him to just 26 points away from the 1,000 points scored mark. He would join Lavitt as the second River Hawk to reach that mark this season and 40th in team history. The senior also had six rebounds, two assists, and two steals on the day.
UP NEXT FOR THE RIVER HAWKS 
  • Saturday's win marks a second-straight win for the River Hawks, keeping their Landmark Conference playoffs hopes intact as they have four more regular-season games to play. 
  • The River Hawks will host Catholic University on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
