ELIZABETHTOWN, PA - Susquehanna women's lacrosse started off their Landmark Conference season on a positive note after a dominating road victory over Elizabethtown, 16-6. The River Hawks quickly took the lead and never looked back after going on a 4-0 run to open the game. The bulk of the scoring belonged to Jessica Russo having a career day with nine points and eight goals, while senior goalie Aerin O'Brien reached 500 career saves after logging 15 on the day.
HOW IT WENT DOWN
- Jessica Russo got the scoring started quickly with a free position goal to put Susquehanna up 1-0 with 12:45 left in the first quarter.
- After seven minutes of no scores from either team Sophia Trively added on to the Susquehanna total with 5:56 to go in the first.
- Russo tallied her second goal of the game in the final minutes of the first to drive the River Hawks total to three as the defense held Elizabethtown scoreless.
- Susquehanna's leading scorer Abby Andrus scored a man-up goal off of a Waverly Oake-Libow pass to push the lead to 4-0 with 14:31 left in the second.
- The Blue Jays tried to rally back and got a score off the stick of Hailey Meyer, but after the goal Russo scored a man-down goal for the River Hawks and brought the score to 5-1 with 11:26 left in the second quarter.
- Russo then went on a tear scoring back-to-back man-up goals to give Susquehanna a six score lead.
- Elizabethtown stopped the three goal rally by netting their second goal of the game with 7:24 left in the second.
- The River Hawks brought their lead back up to six with a Makaela Larkin free position goal to end the second quarter up 8-2.
- Susquehanna started off the third quarter on a tear, netting three goals with 12:23 left in the third. The first goal came from Russo and Andrus tallied the other two.
- After an offensive lull, Russo scored yet again to drive the score to 12-2, putting the running clock in motion.
- The Blue Jays scored with 5:33 left in the third to make it 12-3 before Sloane Coddington brought the lead back to 10 to reinstate the running clock.
- Going into the fourth quarter down by 10 Elizabethtown rallied back and scored two goals with 12:03 left in the fourth.
- Russo scored her eighth goal of the game to make the score 14-5 with 5:39 left in the fourth quarter.
- Elizabethtown's Megan Meyer scored a man-up goal with 3:06 left to make it 14-6, before Alena Malinowski and Abby DiComes scored two last goals to end the game up 16-6.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Russo led the River Hawk offense with nine points made up of one assist and eight goals.
- Aerin O'Brien's 15 saves pushed her career total to 507, fourth all-time among Susquehanna goalies.
- Andrus totaled four points off of one assist and three goals.
- Coddington, DiComes, Malinowski, Larkin, and Trively scored one goal each.
- Susquehanna outshot Elizabethtown 35-29, and they lead with 23 shots on goal compared to the Blue Jays' 18.
- Both teams had 12 draw controls, led by Kimberly Nagengast with six.
- Bridget McCann led the defense with two caused turnovers.
