Softball Tames Chatham Cougars, Tangle with St. John Fisher in Florida Friday

CLERMONT, FL - Susquehanna softball continued their streak of splits against St. John Fisher and Chatham University. The River Hawks fell to the Cardinals, before handling the Cougars in the backend of the twinbill. 

St. John Fisher 15-Susquehanna 5:
  • The Cardinals sprung into action early, scoring five runs to open the game. St. John Fisher continued to push the lead in the second inning, jumping ahead of Susquehanna 12-0. 
  • Entering the third inning, the Cardinals did not let off the gas at all, adding three runs in the frame to take the 15-0 lead.
  • The River Hawks fourth inning saw some offensive sparks beginning with a Katelyn Dugery double down the left field line, scoring Riley Mullen and Stevie Shaak
  • Isabella Sulesky added her name to the batting list, singling to left center. Sulesky scored Katelyn Dugery from third base. 
  • Elle Walasavage reached first base on a fielder's choice, giving giving Mary Wilkinson enough time to round third and touch home plate.
  • Susquehanna's final run of the game came with fireworks when Isabella Sulesky took off for home plate, stealing home and scoring Susquehanna's fifth and final run of the game. 
Susquehanna 4-Chatham 0:
  • The River Hawks struck early in the top half of the first inning, notching two runs on the board. Maddy Devine sent a ground ball to the Cougars shortstop, giving Elle Walasavage enough time to cross home plate for the opening run of the contest. Susquehanna continued to pour it on when Savannah Patrone singled, earning an RBI when Stevie Shaak crosed home plate. 
  • SU tacked on two additional runs in the second inning, when Stevie Shaak singled, scoring Graysen Trybulski from third base.
  • Susquehanna's final run of the game came when Stevie Shaak stole home plate to give the River Hawks the 4-0 lead.
  • Susquehanna's defense held strong the remainder of the game, including a bases loaded bottom of the seventh inning. Susquehanna shut the Cougars out to win the game 4-0.
Inside the Box Scores:
  • The River Hawks earned five hits against the Cardinals, with Katelyn Dugery leading the way with two hits. Stevie Shaak, Isabella Sulesky, and Kaylee Smallen all earned one hit during the game. 
  • Amanda Amerman earned the start for the River Hawks, working 1.0 innings in the circle. Amerman was reliefed by Maura Savoca and Piper Wright. Savoca earned one strikeout, while Wright finished her day with four.
  • The River Hawks bats were hot against Chatham, finishing the day with 12 hits. Shaak, Patrone, and Perez all notched two hits during the contest. 
  • Riley Mullen earned the start for the River Hawks, pitching 6.1 innings in the circle. Mullen finished her day with three strikeouts. Piper Wright finished the game in the seventh inning, earning one strikeout and not allowing any hits or runs to score in a bases loaded situation.
Up Next for the River Hawks:
  • Susquehanna looks to wrap up their trip down south with two games remaining. SU jumps into action against Wenthworth Institute of Technology at 10 A.M. on Saturday, March 7, with the teams Florida trip coming to a close against Brandeis University at 2:45 P.M.
