Softball Takes Two from Juniata

HUNTINGDON, PA - Solid pitching performances from Brianna Jones and Amanda Amerman made Susquehanna's slim leads stand up in both games at Juniata Wednesday, beating the Eagles 2-1 in the opener and 4-2 in the nightcap.

SUSQUEHANNA 2, JUNIATA 1
  • Maddy Devine gave Susquehanna a first-inning lead with her RBI double scoring the pitcher Brianna Jones
  • Alyssa Mayorca made it 2-0 in the fourth after a single to short, allowing Sydney Perez to score.
  • Jones made the most of her early lead, shutting out the Eagles through the first five innings and registering six strikeouts on the day with no walks and seven hits allowed.
  • Juniata did pose one threat in the sixth as it was the first inning where they had more than one hit with two. This was enough for Dani Berlin to deliver a two-out RBI single. Jones got her next batter Cailee Barnett to fly out to right field to end the frame.
  • Jones then closed the door in the seventh. With the tying run on second, she got batter Grace Hensch to ground out to short to end the game.
  • Susquehanna had ten hits, with Jones and Devine each having two hits. Devine had the team's lone multi-base hit with her ribbie double, while Jones and Mayorca recorded one stolen base.
SUSQUEHANNA 4, JUNIATA 2
  • With a wide array of pitchers to pick from for game two, head coach Caressa DeRossett handed the ball to an experienced arm in senior Amanda Amerman
  • Amerman got some run support to start as DP Savannah Patrone pushed through a two-RBI single in the first for a 2-0 lead.
  • Juniata answered back in the home half of the first thanks to a sacrifice fly and an RBI single to tie it up at 2-2.
  • It wouldn't be tied for long as Brianna Jones, who batted leadoff and played shortstop this game, doubled to left center to birng home Alyssa Mayorca
  • Maddy Devine added another run in the fourth, forcing a fielder's choice that led Elle Walasavage to score to make it 4-2.
  • Amerman settled in by holding Juniata scoreless the rest of the way, as well as holding them to just one hit over the last four innings. She finished with three strikeouts, allowing six hits with four walks.
UP NEXT FOR THE RIVER HAWKS
  • The River Hawks return home with a 5-5 Landmark record and a key series upcoming with Elizabethtown in a doubleheader, set to begin at 1 p.m. from Sassafras Field.
  • They have one more non-conference series set at Stevenson Tuesday, Apil 21 before returning home to face Scranton in a twinbill Saturday, April 25 as part of Senior Day.
