SELINSGROVE, PA - Susquehanna women's lacrosse experienced their first Landmark Conference defeat in Friday's home match against Moravian. The River Hawks got on the board to start and deflected an early Greyhounds charge with a late first quarter goal to end the period trailing just 4-2. Moravian, however, hit the throttle in the second quarter and scored six straight goals, eventually building its lead to as much as 11 to take a 15-7 win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Abby DiComes got the scoring started by burying her shot off a feed from Waverly Oake-Libow just a minute and a half into the game.
- Moravian got into gear scoring the next four goals from Faith Mahoskey, Melissa Elefonte, Kerry Seiler, and Ella Steirer.
- The River Hawks countered when Sophia Trively notched her first of two goals on the day, assisted by Abby Andrus, who would go on to have a five-point day.
- The first quarter scoreboard read 4-2 as both teams were very much in the game. Susquehanna goalie Aerin O'Brien had four of her 11 saves in the opening period.
- The Greyhounds opened the second quarter with a bang, netting the first six goals of the goals for a 10-2 lead. Seiler, Steirer and Elefonte each picked up their second goals in this stretch, while Bailey Leatherman added a player-up goal and Cora Sollenberger adding two of her own.
- Susquehanna's lone retort in the second period came late as Trively used a player-up chance to score off an assist from DiComes to make the halftime score 10-3.
- Moravian continued its great work to start the third, scoring the quarter's only four goals from Mahoskey, Steirer, Elefonte, and Kathryn Hunsinger.
- Andrus scored all four of the River Hawks' goals in the fourth quarter, two of which were assisted by Trively and one each from Oake-Libow and Mia D'Arco.
- Through 12 games this season, Andrus is on a tear with a career-high 41 goals and 10 assists for 51 points.
- Oake-Libow kept up her Landmark-leading status with 30 assists on the year.
- Trively's two goal day puts her at second on the team with 22 goals.
- O'Brien moves her career saves total to 527 for third all-time. '
- Moravian won 16 draw controls compared nto eight from Susquehanna. Kimberly Nagengast led SU with five, while Sloane Coddington won two and Maggie McDermott one.
