Men's Tennis Beats Lycoming 5-2 in Season Premiere

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — The Susquehanna University men's tennis team opened its 2026-27 season in winning fashion Wednesday afternoon, earning a 5-2 victory over Lycoming College at Brandon Park.

The River Hawks claimed the doubles point by winning two of the three matches before taking four of six singles contests to secure the season-opening victory. Susquehanna begins the season 1-0 overall and 1-0 against Landmark Conference competition.

THE DOUBLES

  • Susquehanna got off to a strong start in doubles play, winning at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to take the opening point.
  • Daniel Murphy and Owen Miller cruised to a 6-0 victory at No. 1 doubles over Logan Hammond and Kayvan Shams.
  • At No. 2 doubles, Dante Neely and Griffin Yereance earned a 6-3 win against Thomas Andersen and Teli Bobotas.
  • Lycoming picked up its lone doubles victory at No. 3, where Keegan Gill and Mason Morrow defeated Nathan Hepner and Owen Trump 7-5.

THE SINGLES

  • The River Hawks carried their momentum into singles play, winning four of the six matches.
  • Miller posted a dominant 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles over Hammond, while Yereance added a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles against Andersen.
  • Neely battled to a 7-5, 6-3 victory at No. 3 singles over Bobotas, and Peter Lewin closed out the team victory with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles against Morrow.
  • Lycoming earned victories at Nos. 2 and 5 singles. Shams defeated Murphy 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 at No. 2, while Gill topped Hepner 6-4, 6-4 at No. 5.


UP NEXT FOR THE RIVER HAWKS

  • Susquehanna returns to action Saturday, Sept. 19, traveling to Lebanon Valley College for a 3 p.m. match in Annville, Pa.
