SCRANTON, Pa. — The Susquehanna University women's soccer team used a stunning second-half goal off a corner kick to draw the defending Landmark Conference Scranton on Saturday at Weiss Field, opening their Landmark season at 0-0-1, while maintaining their strong start at 7-1-1.
How It Went Down
- Scranton struck first in the 11th minute when Natalia Dobush found the back of the net off an assist from Alexis Ocasio to give the Royals a 1-0 advantage.
- The River Hawks continued to pressure the Scranton defense throughout the opening half, including a pair of shots on goal from Amelia Kopp and a shot from Ella Briggs that hit the woodwork. Susquehanna entered halftime trailing 1-0 despite holding the Royals scoreless over the final 34 minutes of the opening period.
- Susquehanna responded early in the second half when Kopp set up a corner kick from the right side. Her left-footed cross was so spot on Scranton goalie Makenzie Van Arsdale tried to bat it away, but it bounced off her hands and into the goal as a charged up River Hawks team ran to embrace Kopp to celebrate the equalizer.
- Neither team could find a game-winning goal over the final 31 minutes as the two sides settled for a draw in the first Landmark Conference match of the season for both teams.
