River Hawk Men’s Tennis Performs Well at King’s (Pa.) Invitational

Box Score 1 WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The first-years shined for the Susquehanna University men's tennis team at the King's (Pa.) College Men's Tennis Invitational on September 14-15.
 
How It Happened
Doubles
  • The first-year duo of John Duncan (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) and Joshua Sanderson (Mount Wolf, Pa./Northeastern) earned an 8-0 triumph over Misericordia's Matthew McCaffrey and Nico Touch in the quarterfinals of Doubles Flight No. 2 before falling 8-6 to the eventual champions, Cabrini's Been Mead and Vince Paetow.
 
Singles
  • Sanderson reached the semifinals of Singles Flight No. 2. He picked up a shutout win over Marywood's Jarrod Palmer in the first round before taking down Scranton's Daniel Scala, 6-1, 6-1 in the quarterfinals.
  • Sanderson's run came to a halt with a 3-6, 2-6 loss to the eventual champion, Manhattanville's Jan Senkerik, in the semifinals.
  • Duncan also made a solid run for the River Hawks, advancing to the semifinals of Singles Flight No. 4. He posted a 7-6, 6-3 victory over Arcadia's Jonathan Noble in the quarterfinals before falling 4-6, 3-6 to Mead in the semifinals.  
  • First-year Conor Ryan (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) went 1-1 at Singles Flight No. 5 as Ryan earned a 6-1, 6-0 win over Marywood's Joey Burridge in the first round before dropping a three-set decision (2-6, 6-1, 1-10) to King's Jason Homschek.
  • First-year Sam Sidle (Manchester, Pa./Northeastern) tallied a 1-1 record at Singles Flight No. 6 with a 6-4, 2-6, 10-8 win over King's Nick Holland in the quarterfinals and then a 6-1, 6-3 loss to the eventual champion, Scranton's Patrick O'Mara, in the semifinals.
  • First-year Justin Mahoney (Oxford, N.J./Warren Hills) notched a 6-0, 6-1 win over Misericordia's Noah Dayton in the quarterfinals and a 4-6, 4-6 loss to DeSales' Juan Troncoso in the semifinals for a 1-1 log at Singles Flight No. 7.
