Alex Bellot '22 with Nicki the Horse (l.) and treating a patient at Sunbury Animal Hospital
TOWSON, Md. - Here's our second Susquehanna University student-athlete to be featured in the Landmark Conference Student of the Week series this Monday, senior Alex Bellot (Gaithersburg, Md./T.S. Wootton).

Bellot, along with junior John Sabella (Vineland, N.J./St. Augustine Prep), will be featured on the Landmark social media platforms (Instagram - @landmark_conf and Twitter - @LandmarkConf) as well as the league's website, www.landmarkconference.org, as part of Susquehanna's takeover this week.

Bellot shares his experiences at Sunbury Animal Hospital in Sunbury, Pa.

Describe your overall internship/volunteer experience.
My experience at Sunbury Animal Hospital has been amazing but challenging nonetheless. I have the opportunity to work side by side with licensed veterinarians and experience firsthand how they deal with and treat different types of ailments, diseases and emergency situations that an animal in the hospital may be facing.

What have you learned from your experience?
Some of the things I've learned so far include the most common sicknesses, diseases and other complications that domestic animals may face, vaccination processes, how to run lab work tests for certain diseases and parasites, and most importantly, the strenuousness and spontaneity of the everyday life of a veterinarian.

How will this internship help you in your career moving forward?
My position at the Sunbury Animal Hospital has given me much needed experience and insight to the field of veterinary medicine. It helped me confirm that this is the career path I want to take.

What kind of networking have you done at your internship/volunteering?
The Sunbury Animal Hospital has an immense staff which gives me the opportunity to meet many new people and build relationships and connections down the road. I have been really interested in learning as much as I can from the veterinarians about vet med, grad school, and ultimately, what it takes to pursue this career.

Do you have a favorite experience or story? If so, what was it?
My favorite experience would be any time I get to work with exotics like birds, ferrets or rabbits, as well as large animals like pigs, goats and horses because these are all animals I don't see up close and personal too often, so it gives me the chance to learn a thing or two about them.
