ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – For the first time since May 2019, the Susquehanna University men's outdoor track & field team competed and didn't skip a beat in winning the team title at the Elizabethtown College Early Bird Opener on Saturday. The River Hawks captured four events and posted 23 Top-5 finishes.
How It Happened
First-year
Tyler Hauk (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) claimed top honors in the discus with a throw of 39.79m. Junior
Keefer Goodspeed (Watsontown, Pa./Warrior Run) had the best mark in the pole vault with 4.25m, giving him the eighth-best mark in SU history. Sophomore
Isaiah Blatt (Shoemakersville, Pa./Hamburg Area) followed
Goodspeed in second with 4.10m.
First-year
Joey Masser (Shamokin, Pa./Shamokin Area) was a first-place finisher as well for the River Hawks in the high jump, notching a height of 1.85m, and the long jump with 6.83m while sophomore
Jake Newell (Ventnor City, N.J./Parsippany Hills) finished fourth in the high jump with 1.75m.
J. Masser's long jump mark ranks 10th all-time at Susquehanna.
Susquehanna collected three of the top four finishers in the 100 meters as
J. Masser came in second in 11.40 followed by
Blatt in third in 11.48. Sophomore
Ian Dyson (Ridgefield, Conn./Ward Melville (N.Y.)) placed fourth in 11.89.
The River Hawks had another 2-3-4 finish in the 5000 meters. Junior
Jack Warehime (Hanover, Pa./Spring Grove Area) led the way with a time of 16:21.50 for second place followed by junior
John Sabella (Vineland, N.J./St. Augustine Prep) in third in 16:24.30. Sophomore
Shane Urban (Victor, N.Y./Victor Central) was fourth in 16:31.20.
Warehime took second in the 1500 meters in 4:06.53 while first-year
Matt Masser (Shamokin, Pa./Shamokin Area) finished third in 400m hurdles in 1:01.58 and first-year
Blake Shellenberger (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) was fifth in 1:07.46.
Junior
Anthony Taddeo (Hazlet, N.J./Raritan) placed second in the hammer with a throw of 42.62m while
Hauk claimed fifth with a throw of 38.52m. First-year
Ryan MacDonald (Oradell, N.J./River Dell) finished second in the shot put with a throw of 11.69m while
Taddeo came in fourth (11.28m).
First-year
Jackson Mabry (Orwigsburg, Pa./Blue Mountain) notched a second-place finish in the triple jump with 13.31m.
Shellenberger grabbed a fourth-place finish in the 110m hurdles in 18.27 followed by
M. Masser in fifth in 18.84. Junior
Sam Hebert (Rockport, Maine/Camden Hills Regional) tallied a fifth-place finish in the javelin with a distance of 41.19m.
