Nugent Rookie of the Year as Men Garner Six Wins to Finish Second at Landmarks

SELINSGROVE, PA - The Susquehanna University men's track and field team posted six first-place finishes over the weekend that guided them to a second-place finish at the Landmark Conference Outdoor Championships. Mason Winslow  and Owen Nugent earned gold medals in two events, with Winslow picking up solo wins in the 400 meters and 400-meter hurdles, while Nugent carried out a win in the 200 meters and as a member of the winning 4x100 team with Nate Frankenfield, Austin Hurrell, and Calder El Bachir Diakite. Derick Blair won the 10,000 meters with a new championship meet record, while Carter Smink captured the 110-meter hurdles title. 

Nugent was awarded the Landmark Conference's Rookie Performer of the Year. The River Hawks finished with 184.5 points as Moravian won with 221 points. Catholic was third with 164 points and Elizabethtown fourth with 102 points. 

TOP PERFORMERS
  • Blair helped give Susquehanna a warm welcome with Saturday's 10,000 meters, establishing a new championship meet record of 30:49.41. He went on to run the 5K Sunday, placing third at 15:06.16.
  • Winslow kept busy all weekend, headlined by his victories in the 400 meters and 400-meter hurdles. He ran a winning time of 49.20 in the dash, then set a new PR of 54.32 in the hurdles. He also was a member of the 4x400 team that finished fifth with a time of 3:25.96 with Nikolai Lulewich, Evander Lackman and Henry Notarfrancesco
  • Nugent took the Landmark title in the 200 meters, setting a new personal best at 21.71. Dominic Santos placed fourth at 22.11, while Nate Frankenfield ran 22.36 for fifth. Nugent placed third in the 100 meter finals at 10.85, a new personal best. He qualified with a time of 10.93. 
  • Nugent and Frankenfield followed up with their teammates by winning the 4x100 with Hurrell and Diakite at 42.16. 
  • Susquehanna posed a big threat in the 110-meter hurdles as Smink, Diakite, Nikolai Lulewich and Charless Montross all qualified for the finals. Smink went on to win the finals with a time of 14.39 after securing the second-fastest prelim time of 14.57. Diakite took second at 14.56 after logging the fastest prelim time of 14.51. Lulewich placed fourth in the finals at 15.19 and Montross sixth at 15.90. 
  • Andrew Hilke ran the 3,000 meter steeplechase, finishing sixth with a PR time of 10:13.84. 
  • Hayden Durst took second in the pole vault, making it up to 4.45m for a new PR. Seth Taub finished fourth at 4.10m. 
  • Jonathan Hughes took third in the javelin at 53.50m, while Jace Hersh cleared 50 meters also at 50.02m. 
  • Elijah Smith earned bronze in the long jump at 6.38m, doing so on his fifth attempt. In a tight battle, Montross was sixth at 6.36m and Hurrell ninth at 6.25m. 
  • Kieran Hennessy made it fourth in the discus at 42.78, while Cole Goodwin was fifth at 42.75m and Cooper Bottorf sixth at 41.14m. 
  • Hennessy took fifth in the hammer throw at 44.89m. Goodwin took seventh at 43.08m, Carter Reed 41.35m for ninth, and Bottorf tenth at 40.10m.
  • Hennessy led the team for a third time in the shot put, finishing sixth at 13.06m, while Goodwin placed eighth at 12.58m. 
  • Kyle Landry finished sixth in the triple jump at 12.73m. 
UP NEXT FOR THE RIVER HAWKS
  • The River Hawks head up to Williams College next weekend for the Farley Inter Regional May 8-9.
  • The AARTFC Championships take place May 13-14 from Ursinus College.
