COLLEGEVILLE, PA - The Susquehanna University men's track and field team closed out a solid outdoor campaign at the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field (AARTFC) Championships, hosted at Ursinus College. For a pair of seniors, they finished out their careers with regional bronze medals as
Carter Smink took third in the 110-meter hurdles, while
Austin Hurrell was a member of the third-place 4x100 relay team.
HOW IT WENT DOWN
- Carter Smink took on the 110-meter hurdles, qualifying for regionals on Wednesday with a time of 14.45, then turning on the jets in the finals Thursday at 14.39 to finish third.His finals time tied his personal best and his winning time from the Landmark Championships.
- Reigning 200-meter Landmark champion and Rookie of the Year Owen Nugent finished seventh with a time of 21.67.
- Mason Winslow parlayed his Landmark title performance in the 400-meter hurdles by placing sixth in the regional field with a time of 53.52.
- Sophomore runner Derick Blair turned in his outstanding spring season with a sixth-place finish in the 5,000 meters at 15:10.69.
- The 4x100 team of Austin Hurrell, Owen Nugent, Mason Winslow and Dominic Santos earned the team their second third-place finish with a time of 41.24.
- Rowan Smith closed out his career competing in the decathlon, finishing ninth with 5,618 points. He set career bests in the pole vault at 3.50m and discus at 31.51m.
- First-year thrower Jonathan Hughes competed in the javelin, finishing 14th with a mark of 53.35m. This caps a solid rookie campaign after setting a personal-best 54.96m this spring.
- Nugent and Santos took on the 100-meter prelims, with Nugent running 10.92 and Santos 11.01.
- Sophomore Nikolai Lulewich ran the 400-meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 56.61. He also ran the 110-meter hurdle prelims, taking a time of 15.45.
- Hurrell also hit the long jump pit, going as far as 6.05m.
- Hayden Durst completed his first season in the pole vault, clearing 4.26m.
- Calder El Bachir Diakite competed in the 110-meter hurdles prelims, finishing one spot shy of the finals with a time of 14.53.
SEASON NOTES
- Susquehanna concluded its outdoor season finishing second at the Landmark Conference championships with wins in six events.
- The Landmark winners included Blair in the 10,000 meters, Smink in the 110-meter hurdles, the 4x100, Winslow in the 400 meters and the 400 hurdles, and Nugent in the 200 meters.
