SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna University men's outdoor track & field team claims the 2021 Landmark Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championship, snapping Moravian College's five-year reign as Landmark outdoor champions.
First-year
Joey Masser (Shamokin, Pa./Shamokin Area) captured both the Landmark Men's Rookie of the Year and Landmark Men's Field Athlete of the Year awards while third-year head coach
Ethan Senecal and his staff were named the Landmark Men's Coaching Staff of the Year for the first-time during
Senecal's tenure.
The River Hawks, who hosted this year's championships, captured seven events in tallying 223.5 points to Moravian's 191 for the program's second-ever Landmark Outdoor Championship title. SU's first outdoor title came in 2014 when the River Hawks posted 303 points to Moravian's 286.5.
How It Happened
J. Masser captured three All-Landmark First Team awards in first career conference outdoor championships. He finished first in the 110m hurdles in 15.24 followed by his brother,
Matt, in third in 15.80.
J. Masser also took first in the high jump with a height of 1.93m followed by first-year
Jackson Mabry (Orwigsburg, Pa./Blue Mountain) in third with 1.83m and sophomore
Jake Newell (Ventnor City, N.J./Parsippany Hills) in fifth with 1.73m.
J. Masser's final first-place finish came in the long jump as he posted a mark of 6.92m. Sophomore
Chance Singleton (Middle River, Md./New Town) finished fourth with 6.32m followed by junior
Trent McGuire (Duncannon, Pa./Susquenita) in fifth with 6.28m, and junior
Keefer Goodspeed (Watsontown, Pa./Warrior Run) in seventh with 6.08m.
The foursome of senior
Alejandro Gillespie (Morristown, N.J./Storm Ring), sophomore
Ian Dyson (Ridgefield, Conn./Ward Melville [N.Y.]), first-year
Andrew Rooney (Locust Gap, Pa./Mount Carmel Area), and
Singleton finished first in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:26.25. All four picked up All-Landmark First Team honors
Goodspeed notched a First Team award in the pole vault, taking first with a height of 4.40m, while sophomore
Isaiah Blatt (Shoemakersville, Pa./Hamburg Area) picked up All-Landmark Second Team honors with a second-place finish with a mark of 4.40m.
First-year
Tyler Hauk (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) posted a top mark of 41.38m in the discus throw to earn All-Landmark First Team honors while junior
Curtis Anthony (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport) also garnered First Team all-star status with a first-place finish in the javelin with a mark of 50.89m.
Anthony's classmate,
Sam Hebert (Rockport, Maine/Camden Hills Regional), took sixth with 45.98m
J. Masser added All-Landmark Second Team to his resume with a second-place finish in the 100m in 11.15 followed by
Blatt in third in 11.28 and junior
Jonathon White (Mohegan Lake, N.Y./Lakeland Senior) in seventh in 11.60.
J. Masser also placed second in the triple jump for Second Team honors with a mark of 13.40m followed by
Mabry in third with 12.90m,
Newell in sixth with 12.10m, and
Blatt in seventh with 11.94m.
Singleton finished third in the 200m in 22.46 followed by
Dyson in fourth in 22.52 and
Blatt in seventh in 23.35.
Junior
John Sabella (Vineland, N.J./St. Augustine Prep) reached the podium with a third-place finish in the 10,000m with a time of 34:14.71 while the foursome of
Blatt,
White,
Mabry, and
McGuire finished third in the 4x100 relay in 44.23.
Rooney led the River Hawks in the 400m with a fourth-place finish in 51.73 followed by
Gillespie in fifth in 52.63 and
Dyson in sixth in 52.63.
M. Masser earned a fourth-place finish in the 400m hurdles in 59.99.
Junior
Jack Warehime (Hanover, Pa./Spring Grove Area) tallied fifth-place finishes in the 800m (1:59.15), the 1,500m (4:08.75), and the 5,000m (16:08.37) while sophomore
Bradshaw Henning (Catasauqua, Pa./Catasauqua) took sixth in the 800m in 2:00.80.
Sophomore
Shane Urban (Victor, N.Y./Victor Central) paced SU in the 3,000m steeplechase with a fifth-place finish in 10:25.44 while first-year
Isaac Martin (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) took seventh in 10:41.14.
The River Hawks swept the last four spots of the podium for the hammer throw as junior
Anthony Taddeo (Hazlet, N.J./Raritan) led the charge with a fifth-place finish (40.82m) followed by
Hebert in sixth (40.38m),
Hauk in seventh (40.12m), and
Anthony in eighth (39.59m).
First-year
Ryan MacDonald (Oradell, N.J./River Dell) claimed a sixth-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 11.87m while
Taddeo was eighth with 11.53m.
