Brandon Zimmerman finished the opening day of the heptathlon in the top two positions in action from the 2022 Susquehanna Multi & Invitational from the James W. Garrett Sports Complex Field House Friday evening.
Masser started the day by winning the 60 meter day with a time of 7.15, setting a heptathlon facility record and regional qualifying time good for 830 points. Zimmerman was right behind his teammate in second place with a time of 7.19 for 816 points.
In the long jump, Masser also earned the win as he set a heptathlon facility record and regional qualifying distance of 6.99 meters for 811 points. He finished the event with leaps of 6.98 and 6.92 meters in his second and third jumps. Zimmerman was second in the event with 753 points, as he followed his first jump of 6.52 meters by repeating his final mark of 6.74 meters on his second and third attempts.
The men's shot put saw Masser take second place with a distance of 11.41 meters on his second toss, while Zimmerman took fourth with a 9.83 heave on his final of three throws.
The men finished the day's festivities with the high jump, and Masser earned the victory with a height of 1.92 meters. Masser cleared 1.71 and 1.74 on his first attempts, and after clearing the third attempt at 1.80 meters. Masser cleared 1.83, 1.86 and1.89 on his first chance, and after faulting on 1.92 on his first chance he came back and was successful for the winning mark.
Zimmerman was third in the high jump as he was successful at 1.65 meters, as well as 1.71 and 1.74 meters on his first jump. Zimmerman was very close at 1.77 meters but couldn't quite clear the bar as he took third.
On the day, Masser posted 2,943 points to sit atop the standing while Zimmerman has 2,621 points in front of Marquise Burks (2,488) and Justin Dunklin (2,460) of Frostburg State and Travis Lane (2,051) from King's College.
