SELINSGROVE, PA (January 15, 2022) -- The Susquehanna University men's indoor track and field team shined in the second day of action from the Susquehanna Multi & Invitational Saturday, posting three individual victories while first-year
Elliott Davis was second in both the 200 and 400 meter dashs from the James W. Garrett Sports Complex Field House.
Davis was only 0.01 seconds behind Nathaniel Mesy of Frostburg State for the victory, while also just missing his season-best time by 0.01 seconds in the 200 meter dash. Davis would come back in the 400 meter dash to run a 51.73 in the fifth and final heat to take runner-up honors in that race as well. The victories for SU came in the heptathlon, high jump and pole vault, as
Joey Masser used a school record in the 60 hurdles to finish with a regionally-qualifying score of 4,505 to win the heptathlon. Masser's school-best in the 60 meter hurdles was a 8.54, following that up with a 3.00 meter pole vault for 357 points and a 3.36.17 in the 1000 meter run to finish the event.
First-year
Brandon Zimmerman took second int he heptathlon with a total score of 4,190, which also was a regional-qualifying time for the newcomer. Zimmerman ran a 9.02 in the hurdles, earning 242 points later in the pole vault with a 2.50 meter successful jump. In the 1000 meters, Zimmerman was third overall with a time of 3:08.17 for 586 points.
In the pole vault, junior
Isaiah Blatt passed until the height of 4.10 meters, making the distance on his second attempt to earn the victory. Sophomore
Bryce Ellinger was another individual winner on Saturday, as he posted a regional-qualifying height of 1.94 meters. Ellinger made his first chance at both 1.79 and 1.84 meters, followed by a make at 1.89 meters on his second chance. He would clear 1.94 on his first jump, but couldn't quite get over 1.99 meters despite clinching the victory.
Fellow two-sport athlete Keith Green had strong day in the long jump for SU, as he finished with a distance of 6.34 meters to secure fifth place. Blatt was also seventh in the long jump with a leap of 6.25 meters on his first attempt of the afternoon. Masser would be back in action as well later in the day in the triple jump, as he was SU's top finisher with a mark of 13.40 meters, good for third place and a regional-qualifying mark.
In the weight throw, sophomore
Tyler Hauk qualified for the finals and ended up taking fourth place with a distance of 13.68 on his third throw of the day.
The track events saw first-year
Ezra Miller earn eighth place in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.21, while
Ian Dyson was eighth overall in the 400 meter dash after crossing the finish line in 54.83 seconds. First-year mid-distance runner
Kareem Beck led the way for SU in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:08.21, and
John Sabella starred in the 5000 meter run to take fourth place with a time of 16:10.73. Miller also qualified for the 60 meter hurdle finals, running a 9.01 for sixth place.
