ROCHESTER, NY (January 29, 2022) -- First-year
Brandon Zimmerman won the long jump while sophomore
Bryce Ellinger won the high jump for the second straight weekend as a few of many highlights for the Susquehanna University men's indoor track and field team at the 2022 Conference Challenge Cup at Nazareth College Saturday.
The final team results will be announced on Sunday, but Zimmerman and Ellinger both earned 10 points for the River Hawks. Ellinger finished with a final mark of 1.94 meters, passing up to 1.89, clearing that mark and 1.94 on his first attempt before missing at 1.99. Zimmerman posted a AARTFC qualifying mark of 6.97 meters for a collegiate-best time mark.
There was another victory for the River Hawks, as the 4x200 meter relay just missed the school record with a winning time of 3:29.52 despite a mid-race collision thanks to the efforts of Zimmerman,
Elliott Davis,
Ezra Miller and
Ian Dyson.
Dyson and Davis each scored in the 60 meter finals, as Dyson took home fifth overall with a collegiate-best time of 7.22. Davis ran a 7.32 in the prelims for a collegiate-best time, racing to a 7.43 in the finals for eighth place. In the 5000 meters,
John Sabella took home third place after crossing the line with a time of 16:08.22.
In other field events,
Jake Newell would clear 1.79 meters in the high jump, a collegiate-best height for the junior to earn two points for SU. In the pole vault,
Isaiah Blatt picked up a point with an eighth-place finish after clearing 4.05 meters in the event. Teammate
Keefer Goodspeed also cleared 4.05 meters in the pole vault to take ninth place.
Sophomore Ryan MacDonald tossed the shot to a distance of 12.25m to earn ninth place in the shot put.
