SELINSGROVE, PA (December 10, 2022) -- The Susquehanna University men's track and field team chalked up four victories, including the facility record in the heptathlon by
Joey Masser as the River Hawks finished action in the second day at the Susquehanna Early Season Multi and Invitational at Garrett Sports Complex Saturday.
Masser came into the day with the lead in the heptathlon after a strong start Friday, and continued that into Saturday as he totaled a personal-best 4815 points for the victory. The point total is No. 3 in NCAA Division III following today's action, while the teammate
Brandon Zimmerman finished second with a personal-best point total of 4414.
Isaiah Blatt was third with 4298 points, while
Benjamin Bulger tallied 4055 points for fourth.
Other wins for the River Hawks came in the men's 60 meter hurdles, as Mathew Masser raced to a personal-best time of 8.71 seconds. First-year
Carter Smink was third in the event after running an 8.81, and sophomore
Ezra Miller recorded a time of 9.09 seconds for fourth place.
In the long jump,
Bryce Ellinger picked up the victory with a very solid performance for the high jump star. Ellinger recorded a distance of 6.63 meters, hitting the same mark on his second and fourth attempts to pick up the victory.
In the shot put, first-year
Cole Goodwin recorded a collegiate-best distance of 13.88 meters to pick up the win, as his winning throw came on the first toss of finals. Junior Ryan MacDonald also qualified for finals and finished fourth with a mark of 12.59 meters, while junior
Tyler Hauk was seventh with a final mark of 11.78 meters.
It was a strong day of action elsewhere as well for SU, as first-year
Austin Hurrell was runner-up in the 60 meter dash with a collegiate-best time of 7.13, and senior
Ian Dyson was just behind him in fifth place with a time of 7.18 seconds.
In the 200 meters, Dyson would earn second place accolades after speeding to a 23.28. Mathew Masser was seventh in the 200 meters as well with a time of 23.84. In the 400 meters,
Ezra Miller recorded a time of 54.59 for fifth place and first-year
Miles Doll took home seventh place in the 800 meter run with a 2:13.91.
In the high jump, first-year
Marcus Moyer took second place with a cleared mark of 1.91 meters while junior
Jackson Mabry was fourth overall with a cleared mark of 1.76 meters. In the triple jump,
Joey Masser was runner-up after bounding to a mark of 13.50 meters, while Mabry was third with a distance of 12.82 meters.
In the weight throw, Hauk was one of three River Hawks in the top eight as he finished second after chalking up a distance of 13.83 on his fifth throw of the day. MacDonald was third with a 13.52 meter throw, and Goodwin also made the finals in the weight throw with a 12.67 meter heave.
Susquehanna is off for the rest of 2022 before getting back to action January 14 at home in the River Hawk Invitational in Garret Sports Complex.
