SELINSGROVE, PA (February 12 2022) -- Sophomore
Bryce Ellinger broke a 12-year old school record in the high jump Saturday afternoon, clearing 2.06 meters to win the event as he helped lead the Susquehanna University men's indoor track and field squad to a strong showing at the SU Invitational, hosted in Garrett Sports Complex.
Ellinger has now taken first place in all four events he has competed in this season, clearing 1.89 meters and 1.94 meters with ease on his first attempts. After a pass at 1.97 meters, Ellinger got over 2.00 and 2.03 on his second shot to set up a chance to break the old record of 2.05 meters set back on February 28, 2009 by Graham Huber. On his first attempt at 2.06, Ellinger flew over the bar without as much as a touch to become the new school and Landmark Conference record holder in the event.
The highlights didn't stop there for SU, as first-year
Elliott Davis continued to show that he's a threat in multiple events as he won both the 200 meter and 400 meter dashes. In the 200 meters Davis posted a new Landmark Conference season-best time with a 23.04, a personal-best along with the seventh-best time in school history. . In his same heat, teammate
Ian Dyson was right behind Davis, as the pairing went 1-2 in the event as Dyson recorded a collegiate-best time of 23.28. Dyson's time sits No. 4 on the Landmark performance list after Saturday's race. Davis wasn't done though, as he ran the league's best time in the 400 meters to win with a 50.94.
Also in the 400 meters,
Ezra Miller ran a personal-best time of 53.97 to move into the top 10 in the conference this year. In the mile,
Jack Warehime was SU's top finisher with a time of 4:40.00 while first-year
John Sabella ran a personal-best time in the 3000 meters of 9:21.26 to take 11th place.
In the 60 meter hurdles, sophomore
Joey Masser had a strong afternoon as he took home third place with a finals time of 8.61 seconds. Miller ran a new personal-best in prelims of 8.92, while Matthew Masser ran a season-best time in the 60 hurdles of 9.13. SU would take fourth in the 4x400 meter relay as well, as
Isaiah Blatt, Ben Bulger,
Kareem Beck and
Joshua Kimotho clocked in at 3:39.70.
The pole vault was a strong event for SU on Saturday as Blatt was second overall with a height of 4.40 meters, a season-best. Senior
Keefer Goodspeed was third in the pole vault, as he cleared a height of 4.25 meters which tied a season-best mark.
Joey Masser was at it again in the long jump, as he finished second overall after posting a leap of 6.84 meters. First-year
Josh Leininger also finished with a collegiate-best distance of 6.09 meters in the long jump. Masser followed up his long jump with another second-place medal, taking the runner-up spot in the triple jump with a 13.68 meter leap, a career-high.
In throwing events, sophomore Ryan MacDonald led the way in the shot put with a heave of 11.73 meters for 15th place overall. In the weight throw, senior
Anthony Taddeo was sixth overall after registering a throw of 14.16 meters. Taddeo was just short of a personal-best mark, while sophomore
Tyler Hauk was seventh with a mark of 13.43 meters as he and Taddeo each qualified for finals.
