SELINSGROVE, PA (February 18, 2022) -- First-year
Elliott Davis and junior teammate
Ian Dyson were fantastic in the sprints Friday evening for the Susquehanna University indoor track and field squad, as the pair highlighted action at the SU Tune-Up from Garrett Sports Complex.
Dyson posted a first-place finish in the 60 meter dash, running a 7.21 in the prelims before exploding for a personal-best time of 7.12 in the finals to win the event. The time was 0.09 seconds faster than his previous personal best, set earlier in the day. The time is also third-best in the Landmark Conference, only 0.01 seconds behind Sam Compton of Catholic and Myron Holland of Elizabethtown.
In the 200 meters, Dyson and Davis battled each other for the victory in an electrifying race to the tape. In the end, Davis outlasted his teammate by two hundredths of a second, posting a 22.99 second time for a personal-best time. His time is the best in the Landmark Conference, while Dyson's time of 23.01 is the second-best mark on the performance list in 2022.
There were tons of strong performances for SU throughout the night, as first-year
Brandon Zimmerman returned from some nagging injuries to finish second in the 60-meter dash with a regional-qualifying time of 7.13. It's the fourth-best time in the Landmark Conference, and Zimmerman's personal best in the dash.
The 400 meter dash saw first-year
Kareem Beck register a personal-best time of 54.73 for fifth place, while
Blake Shellenberger also posted a personal-best time of 58.44 for 10th place. First-year
Joshua Kimotho was eighth in the 800 meter run with a new collegiate best of 2:05.44, and fellow newcomer
Shane Urban led all River Hawk runners in the mile with a time of 4:48.87.
First-year
Ezra Miller was strong in the 60 meter hurdles, running a personal-best time of 8.86 to take second in preliminaries, taking fourth in the finals with a 9.03.
In the throws, sophomore
Tyler Hauk continued his steady ascent this season as he posted personal-bests in both the shot put and weight throw. Hauk took sixth overall in the shot put with a heave of 12.39 meters, finishing as the runner-up in the weight throw with a toss of 14.23 meters. His weight throw mark is fourth-best in the conference, while moving up to third-best in the Landmark in shot put.
Sophomore Ryan MacDonald had a great day in the weight throw with a new personal-best toss of 13.93 meters, coming on his fifth of six throws, taking third place. First-year
Alex Albrecht registered a new personal-best with a 11.51 meter throw in the shot put, while
Sam Hebert finished seventh in the weight throw with a personal-record toss of 12.69 meters.
In the jumping pit, junior
Isaiah Blatt took third with a jump of 5.90 meters in the long jump, while
Keefer Goodspeed was sixth with a leap of 5.50 meters. Sophomore Keith Green was second in the triple jump, as he posted a mark of 12.65 meters.
Jake Newell was fourth in the high jump, clearing 1.79 meters to equal his personal-best.
The pole vault saw Goodspeed tie his personal-best height of 4.40 meters, winning the event, while Blatt posted a height of 4.20 meters for second place.
