Ellinger Earns All-American Honors In High Jump Saturday At NCAA Championships

WINSTON-SALEM, NC (March 12, 2022) -- Junior Bryce Ellinger picked up Susquehanna University's latest All-American honor, as he finished eighth in the high jump at the Division III NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships Saturday morning from JDL Fast Track.

Ellinger was one of two competitors to pass at 1.92 meters, coming into the competition at 1.97 meters, a mark he comfortably cleared on his first attempt. Ellinger needed just one attempt to get over 2.00 meters as well, as he was one of 15 jumpers to get over the 2.00 mark.

At 2.03 meters, all but seven jumpers would go out of the competition including Ellinger, but since Ellinger needed just one attempt at the previous two marks, he tied with Sam Beatty of Central College for eighth place to earn All-American honors. Ellinger was in his first season as a collegiate track competitor, becoming SU's first All-American since the 2020 season when Chris Petraskie earned the honor in the heptathlon.

Ellinger became only the fifth SU All-American in Indoor Track & Field since the 2010 season, joining Petraskie, Sara Arbogast (Triple Jump, 2020), Ashley West (800m, 2014) and Paul Thistle (Mile, 2010). He is the first Susquehanna All-American in the high jump since 2009, when Graham Huber finished tied for eighth in the event at the NCAA Championships.

"It was a great experience to get down here and feeling out the atmosphere and jumping against some great jumpers," said Ellinger.

Kyle Rollins of St. John Fisher College with a 2.12m leap, while Tanner Slack of Mount Union University was second with a mark of 2.06 meters. Brady Smith (PSU-Behrend), Evan Hershberger (Mount Union), Harry Rienecker (Tufts) and Samuel Hetrick (PSU-Behrend) rounded out the top five. Rollins earned his third straight indoor high jump title.
