Ethan Cooley posted a three-set victory at No. 6 singles to earn the deciding point in a big Landmark Conference victory for the Susquehanna University men's tennis team in action from our nation's capital Saturday.
The River Hawks were down 2-1 coming into singles' play and fell behind 4-1 in the match after the Cardinals picked up wins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles in straight sets. That's when the rally came alive for the River Hawks, as
Emil Vyskocil shook off a 6-1 loss in the opening set to earn a 7-6 win in the second stanza as he earned the tie-breaker 10. In in the third set, Vyskocil topped Matthew Rudolf 6-1 to make it 4-2.
John Duncan pulled the River Hawks to within one as he topped David Brennan 6-4, 6-1 at No. 5 singles to make it 4-3. The match would become deadlocked at four wins apiece after
Tim Basta battled back from a first set loss to pick up a 6-3, 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles.
With the match on the line, Cooley played a thriller at No. 6 singles as he battled James Schmalz from the Cardinals. Cooley picked up a 6-3 win in the first set but Schmalz came right back to pick up a 7-5 win in the second set. The final set would decide the match and Cooley was up for the challenge, taking a 7-5 third set to claim the match victory for SU.

Emil Vyskocil earned a No. 1 doubles victory with a score of 8-4.
