Isaiah Blatt competed in day one of the decathlon at the 2022 Messiah University Invitational. The event saw Blatt finish fifth after five events while Masser is seventh after the day's action at Starry Athletic Complex.
Blatt posted 2652 points following the opening five events, while Masser is seventh with 2600 points. The SU athletes got off to a hot start, going 1-2 in the 100 meter dash. Masser earned the win with a time of 11.34 seconds for 786 points. Blatt was second overall after running a time of 11.54 seconds for 744 points.
Masser earned another win in the long jump, posting 664 points after leaping to a 6.35 meter leap on his final attempt. Blatt was third in the long jump, recording 630 points for his total after finishing with a jump of 6.20 meters.
The shot put followed and saw Masser post 569 points, as his first of three tosses was his final mark of 11.38 meters. Blatt took 12th in the shotput, using his second of three attempts to register a 7.63 meters for 344 points.
The next event was a pivotal one in the meet, as Masser came in as the top high jumper by seed. Masser was unable though to clear a height, as he dropped from first to seventh in the standings. Blatt earned 381 points in the high hump with a mark of 1.49 meters.
The 400 meter dash finished the opening day of action, as Masser crossed the finish line in sixth place with a time of 55.44 for 581 points. Blatt was right behind Masser with a time of 56.17 for 553 points.
Matthew Maransky of Misericordia leads the event with 2941 points, while Marquise Burks of Frostburg State University sits in second place with 2874 points.
Up Next
Masser and Blatt will finish the decathlon Friday at Noon, competing in the final five events. The pair will be tested in the 110 high hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1500 meter dash.
