HUNTINGDON, PA (May 7, 2022) -- The Susquehanna University men's track and field team had three medalists on Saturday to start action at the 2022 Landmark Conference Championships, hosted by Juniata College at Oller Track.
Sophomore
Joey Masser earned Landmark Conference champion honors after winning the long jump, while
Brandon Zimmerman was runner-up in the long jump and
Tyler Hauk was second in the discus throw. The River Hawks are tied with Moravian University for first going into day two, posting 50 points after a solid day of performances.
In the long jump, Masser just missed his personal best in the event with a leap of 7.00 meters. The winning jump came on his first attempt of the day, also posting a leap of 6.95 meters which would have also been a winning mark. Zimmerman fouled on his first attempt, but came back with a mark of 6.76 meters on his second jump to take second place.
The long jump was a great event for Susquehanna, as
Keith Green was fourth overall after recording a 6.43m mark on his sixth attempt.
Bryce Ellinger was also fifth in his first long jump attempt in the conference championships, recording a mark of 6.33 meters to earn four points. Junior
Isaiah Blatt also earned a point in the long jump, as he jumped to a distance of 6.07m.
In the men's discus throw, Hauk took home runner-up honors after finishing with a distance of 42.45 meters. Ryan MacDonald also scored three points with a mark of 38.83 meters, earning sixth place overall, while
Anthony Taddeo was 10th with a distance of 31.43 meters.
In the javelin throw,
Curtis Anthony earned five points for the River Hawk total as he was fourth overall with a toss of 44.06 meters. On the track,
John Sabella finished fourth to earn five points with a new personal-best time of 32:56.06. It was the eighth-best time in program history.
TJ Grenda also scored for Susquehanna, as he ran a 33:46.44 to pick up eighth place overall.
Jack Warehime finished 10th overall in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:07.79, while first-year
Joshua Kimotho posted a massive personal-best time of 4:10.35 for 13th place.
In the preliminaries, SU saw
Ian Dyson finish third overall in the 100 meter dash as he ran a time of 11.30 seconds for third overall. The River Hawks put on a dominant performance in the 110 hurdle prelims, posting the top six times.
Joey Masser won his heat with a time of 15.42 as the favorite in Sunday's final, while
Benjamin Bulger was also a heat winner with a time of 15.84.
Ezra Miller posted a huge personal-best time of 15.83 seconds, while Blatt was fourth in qualifying with a PR time of 16.27. Matthew Masser was fifth in qualifying with a time of 16.58, and
Blake Shellenberger was sixth in qualifying with a time of 17.21.
In the 200 meter dash preliminaries, Dyson posted the top time and won his heat with a time of 22.71. Senior
Jonathon White just missed the finals Sunday with a time of 23.38.
