HUNTINGDON, PA (May 8, 2022) -- For the first time in program history, the Susquehanna University men's outdoor track and field team repeated as Landmark Conference champions Sunday in action from Oller Track at Juniata College.
The title was Susquehanna's third all-time in outdoor track and field, and also was its third straight in indoor and outdoor track and field. Head coach
Ethan Senecal and his staff was honored as the 2022 Coaching Staff of the Year after rolling to huge 229 point total, winning by 75 points Sunday over Catholic University.Â
Starting with the track events, the day started with a second-place finish in the 4x100 meter relay as
Jonathon White,
Joey Masser,
Ian Dyson and
Brandon Zimmerman ran to a time of 42.42 for second place and eight points.Â
One of the huge events in Susquehanna's win was the 110 hurdles, as SU took the top five spots led by a big personal-best time of 15.14 by
Joey Masser for the victory. The time was the fifth-best time in program history. Masser was closely followed by his brother Matthew Masser, who also recorded a new PR with a time of 15.45, and
Benjamin Bulger took third in a new lifetime best time of 15.54.Â
First-year
Ezra Miller finished in a new personal-best time of 15.62 seconds, and
Isaiah Blatt ran a 16.22 for fifth place and four points. Sophomore
Blake Shellenberger also scored in the 110 hurdles with a time of 17.03 seconds for seventh. In total, SU racked up 35 total points in the 110 hurdles.Â
The 400 meter finals was next up, and first-year
Elliott Davis earned fourth place and five points for the team total after crossing the finish line in 50.92 seconds. Junior
Jake Newell also established a new PR with a time of 52.14.Â
The 100 meter dash finals was up next, and
Ian Dyson took home fifth place with a time of 11.29 seconds. The River Hawks added three more points to the ledger in the 800 meter run, as
Jack Warehime came in sixth place after running a 1:56.76.Â
The hurdlers were back on the track and once again they dominated, taking the top four spots in the 400 meter hurdles to add 29 points for SU. Zimmerman earned the individual gold in the event, running a 56.18 for the victory. Matthew Masser was second with a PR of 56.59, while Bulger scored six points with a time of 57.06 to finish third. Miller took fourth place as well with a time of 58.66.Â
The 200 meter dash finals followed and Dyson earned third place with a time of 23.29. The last race of the day on the track came in the 4x400 meter relay, as Davis, White, Newell and Zimmerman finished just out of the top spot in second place with a time of 3:21.94.Â
In the field events, SU had a ton of standout performances starting first with the hammer throw where
Tyler Hauk was fourth with a personal-best throw of 42.58 meters.
Anthony Taddeo was fifth in the hammer, as he booked a mark of 40.69 meters.Â
In the triple jump,
Keith Green earned Landmark champion honors as he recorded a mark of 14.32 meters on his sixth and final attempt. The jump was a personal-best and also was the sixth-best jump in program history. Bulger continued his strong weekend with a third-place finish in the triple jump, recording a PR with a mark of 12.99 meters.Â
Zimmerman was fifth in the triple jump as well with a mark of 12.60 meters, and first-year
Josh Leininger recorded a personal best mark of 12.31 meters for seventh. First-year
Ethan Roe was eighth, logging a new PR of 12.01 meters.Â
The jumping standouts continued in the high jump, as
Bryce Ellinger clinched his second high jump Landmark title of the year with a mark of 1.90 meters. Newell was third with a height of 1.80 meters, a new lifetime best. Samuel Hebert also placed for SU, taking fifth with a new PR of 1.75 meters.Â
The shot put saw senior Ryan MacDonald take second place overall with a new PR mark of 13.52 meters, recording the mark on his third toss of six attempts. First-year Alexander Albrecht was seventh, earning two points with a throw of 12.09 meters. Taddeo was eighth with a throw of 11.45 meters, while Hauk took ninth after recording a mark of 11.32 meters.Â
The pole vault was another strong event for Susquehanna, as Blatt earned Landmark champion honors by winning the event with a mark of 4.55 meters. Senior
Keefer Goodspeed earned third place as well, as he cleared a mark of 4.25 meters to pick up six points.
